Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
I think he meant the part about "free versions." That'd be piracy. Unless they were demos from Big Fish or something. Granted, if you truly bought the games before, I think there's a case to be argued about whether or not it can be justified, but it's still a morally grey area, and isn't legal either. And if you didn't buy them before... Then you have no excuse.
I should probably elaborate: I don't condone that kind of thing, but if 1: An official release was bought by the peson doing it before, or 2: The game in question is no longer sold anymore, there's a bit of an argument to be made about whether or not it is morally acceptable. And in the case of the latter, if the game in question is sold again in any form, and you liked said game, you have no excuse to not buy it imo.

Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
Hey everyone...
Well, I tried Aryan's and StinkyFTW's solutions but I didn't have any luck either.
But don't get disappointed though.
I'm pretty sure that Patrick will gonna think something about it.
At least, think the bright side...that we still can play the original trilogy of these games. Imagine if we couldn't....
That would be even more dissapointing.
So, make positive thoughts everyone. Something we will gonna think together.~

Who you're getting the free versions from. You have the right to them from the producer if you can prove you bought them, but doing it from third parties gives profit to them (even though the producer doesn't gain anything from giving you the versions you paid for back).john1013 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 2:46 pmI bought 2 games that I can't play, what needs to be justified?Wonderman109 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 2:42 amCareful there. Wait. How would they gain profit? I mean, advertisements on a website would be one way, but... Advertisements, plus more traffic to a pirating site which may help or hinder depending on the type but probably help if it is supported on advertising like most websites. I wouldn't sweat it, John, just be cautious bringing this stuff up.rainbowmon wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 8:51 pmWait. How would they gain profit? Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
Let's not get this side-tracked. I don't assume John meant a pirated version.
About the issue... no fix yet. Often it seems to happen that a new Windows update comes out, a few people experience problems, and a few weeks/months later the problem gets fixed with the next Windows update automatically. At least, this has happened on several occasions in past years. I know it's frustrating (for me too).

Yeah, I agree, this did get off topic, and it wasn't a very good topic either.
I haven't played in a while now myself... I'll see if I have any issues when I get the chance.

Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
Don't worry and cheer up Patrick.
I'm sure that the solution might be in the corner of our eye and we didn't find it yet.
Now about what you said, if it's an update problem from Windows, then we might have to wait for the next Windows update so to get this problem fixed (I think.)
But if someone else, have another idea about this problem, then I will gonna be glad to hear that.

Weird... I'm on Windows 10 and I don't have this problem at all.
As many should know Windows 10 does updates automatically so it would mean I have the latest updates as well. I've not tried the actual games but the editor wg.exe works fine for me...

OH GOD.
Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
Try running WA triolgy gamees in dgVoodoo2 - http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html
You can also try using 8x antialiasing (set it in Intel(R) HD Graphics Control Panel).

Ok...Thanks for the link and the reply Aryan.
I will gonna try it this weekend and I hope it works.
Oh and btw, a new update appeared in my windows 10 and this version is based of version 1809.
So, I want to ask everyone this:
All of you who already have the version 1809 of windows 10, well, did those games work good on your laptops or not or with lag?
I'm asking that cause I'm not sure if I will gonna update them or not.

Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
I have a core i3 system (not laptop) with Intel(R) HD Graphics. I actually had updated to Windows 10 version 1809 last month, but had serious lag on WA3 and WA3E. I don't know what's the reason (probably Windows Defender), but I think it is fixed(?) in the latest release.Sofoulini wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 9:26 pmOk...Thanks for the link and the reply Aryan.

I have a suggestion - What you actually can do is a "try and revert" trick (sorry for that bad name), which I did, and was 100% safe for me.
I actually updated to Windows 10 version 1809 for testing. But when it didn't work, I went to Settings -> Update & Security -> Recovery -> Go back to previous version of Windows 10.
However, I recommend you to backup your personal files everytime before doing any Windows Update (or any other action which changes/updates your system files). I'm sure you know the "user files deletion bug" which was in the initial public build of 1809.

Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
Double Post!
Well, everyone, today I updated Windows 10 version 1803 to 1809 but still the same problem.
Also, I tried to restore the graphic drivers in their previous versions but still, the problem is still the same.
I...I don't really know what else to do.
I tried everything and I thought that the new version of Windows 10 would solved the problem.
Mmm...Any other ideas? Please?
Also, does anyone have any idea what unable to set graphics mode message means?

Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
Unable to set graphics mode means that the game is unable to set the resolution mentioned by you in the launcher (or in the display.wdf file). The error is very strange because your graphics card supports 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768 (both in 16-bit as well as 32-bit and even in fullscreen!) resolutions which the WA games use. Yes, I'm sure that they are capable of running in Blitz3D because of the results my tool gives.
In case you haven't tried my updated version of gfxtest utility, you can get it from here - download/file.php?id=48315
I actually want to add the same GFX check in the program that the WA uses... But for that I need the code snippet in WA that does this work (and only Patrick can provide it, I PMed him but he has not replied me till now). If it is done, then I think we can get into the bottom of this.
Also, I see that the Blitz3D console text in the screenshots you posted is smaller than the normal... At least if I compare yours with mine. I recommend you to try WSW and see if font rendering is correct. This is just to be sure if there isn't any link between the font rendering bug in WSW and the "Unable to set graphics mode" error in WA.

Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
I think I mentioned this before, but I was too lazy to see if it still happened on my laptop until now... Edit: To be clear, I remembered this happening at one point, but I didn't try to see if it STILL happened until now.
Alright. So. Wonderland Adventures (I should note I'm using the Big Fish version, however the Video Options application for it is still present, so I used it) is giving an "Unable to Set Graohics Mode" error, right?
On my laptop's screen, I don't get that at all.
BUT, when I hook up my laptop to my TV (not sure it's exact size other than it's bigger than my laptop screen but still fairly small), I DID manage to produce it consistently, by putting it at 640x480x32 or 800x600x32 on Fulscreen mode. However, at 1024x768x32, it worked fine.
But wait, there's more! See, when I connected my laptop, I had it set to "Second Screen Only," with my TV obviously being the second screen. In this mode, my laptop won't let me change the PC-wide resolution from Windows 10's Settings app.
I had a thought though, and decided to change it to "Duplicate" mode, which DOES allow me to change the resolution there, but only up to my laptop's maximum (and recommended) resolution, 1366x768, which is what I then proceeded to set it to.
I tried all three 32 bit options again, and this time, something WEIRD happened. 640x480x32 and 800x600x32 worked, but not 1024x768x32!
This made me unplug my laptop from my TV, ensure it was still set to 1366x768 (which I should mention is what I always have it at normally), and try once more... Lo and behold, 1024x768x32 worked again!
Tl;dr apparently whatever TV/monitor you're using can cause this error if it doesn't like your chosen resolution.

Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
Well, I thought something.
I noticed that if I changed some settings from the intel(R) Graphics Control Panel, the message 'unable to set graphics mode' doesn't appear anymore in all WA Games but a small black screen of the games appears and the games don't load.
Also, maybe it has to do with the screen resolution in my laptop which is 1920x1080?
Oh and I tried WSW and the font is ok.

Pull up the Start menu (press the Windows Key on your keyboard or click on the bottom-left-hand side of the desktop where the Windows icon is), click the gear symbol, then click System in the app that pops up. You SHOULD now be in the Display tab, if not, navigate to it on the left. Then just look for resolution, click the drop-down, and try changing it to a lower setting.

Ok...I will give a try now.
Also, I tried and a solution about what Aryan said for black screen.
I went in Settings -> System -> Focus Assist and turn it off for games.
But black screen is still there.

Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
I think the black screen issue you are facing is different from mine - The games were loaded and were working properly on my computer, but it always showed a black screen for a while when it changes the screen resolution (no, it was not the black screen caused by my monitor).
Can you tell me what settings did you change in Intel(R) Control Panel? I also suspect that it could be the problem of your laptop screen not handling that resolutions.
Also, are you able to run the launcher? (named "Wonderland.exe" in the copy from MS, or "Options.exe" in the copy from Big Fish games)
And have you tried this solution of using dgvodoo2?
I'm really sorry that I am unable to solve this problem for you, since it's very strange why the other games work but not WA.Aryan wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 3:05 pmTry running WA triolgy gamees in dgVoodoo2 - http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html

I would be interested in helping you. Do you have discord?
Also I suggest setting your DPI Scaling to 100% rather than 125% or whatever else it is. It's a stretch but maybe it's causing problems with the game.

Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
Ok...I will answer in your questions Aryan and cooldudepoke.
But first, let me tell you this... Yesterday, in WA:POTZ, I found a Readme.txt which it had a technical support and said what to do if the game doesn't run at all. I tried everything which there was in txt but it didn't work either unfortunately.
The game doesn't run at all!

Ensure that you have the latest DirectX drivers. You can
download them at www.microsoft.com/directx for free. Also
make sure that your video- and sound-card drivers are up to
date. Visit the manufacturers website for updates. Check
for viruses and spyware (see above). If all else fails,
contact us via e-mail and include a detailed description
of the problem and your system specifications.
Now about your question cooldudepoke, yes, I have Discord and I changed and DPI Scaling too but it didn't work.
And about you Aryan...first, I tried options.exe in all WA games but they didn't work and secondly, about the settings in Intel(R) Control Panel, I changed them in these settings:
conservative morphological smoothing -->from deactivation to Improved default application settings
smoothing multiple samples-->from deactivation to usage default application settings
anisotropic filtering--> it had options like 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x (I tried them but nothing worked)
Also...I wish I could show you a screenshot on how about the Intel(R) Control Panel settings are in my laptop but they are in greek language.
Now about the last one with dgVoodoo2...well...I tried it but I think that I made a mistake in its settings so about it, can you please give me a guide about how can I use dgVoodoo2 in WA games and what settings I have to install on dgVoodoo2, oh please?~

Re: Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games
Double Post!
FINALLY!!! I made those games to work. FI-NAL-LY!
And the solution was...dgVoodoo 2, of course.
It took me awhile but I found out how dgVoodoo 2 works with WA games so give attention for more details:
1) The only thing that you have to do is to go in that site: http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html
2) Press and download the dgVoodoo v2.55.4 version and after use WinRar so to extract it in your computer.
3) After extracting dgVoodoo v2.55.4, go in dgVoodoo file and after in 3Dfx file and x64 (QEmu) if you have 64bit Windows 7,8 and 10 of course and copy Glide.dll, Glide2x.dll, Glide3x.dll.
4) After go in WA Games and paste those three dll files (actually paste them in the files where the launcher of those games is) .
5) After go back in dgVoodoo file and afterwards to MS file and copy DDraw.dll, D3DImm.dll, D3D8.dll.
6) And finally, go in WA Games again and paste and those three dll files too again (paste them in the same file where the launcher of those games is too) .
7) And ta-da, WA games will gonna work.
Finally! That was the solution from the beginning. Oh well...
Anyway, a huge thanks to Aryan for suggesting me this solution along with cooldudepoke, rainbowomom, StinkyFTW, samuelthx and everyone else for suggesting their own solutions too and trying to help me with that problem and of course, and Patrick, the creator of those amazing games too. Thank you Patrick too! You are amazing too!
P.S: Hey Aryan and Patrick...do you think that we should pin that theme and put it in the top?
I say that cause the most people might still have the same problem like me so in order to find it faster, we should pin this theme.
