Anyway, a huge thanks to Aryan for suggesting me this solution...
I don't deserve that much! Actually, I got that idea from Pawelec's post on Windows 10 topic:

WA trilogy works fine. It is even possible to use DirectX wrapper to render it on newer GPUs but there seem to be some problems with nVidia Optimus. I use dgVoodoo2 (http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html) with GeForce GTX 1060 but the tricky part was to set my integrated GPU as the adapter then set GTX 1060 as the preferred one in Optimus settings panel. Setting GTX 1060 as the target adapter didn't enable it at all. All the settings in the Optimus panel are ignored and dgVoodoo2 DirectX settings apply. 16x antialiasing doesn't work with WA trilogy ('Unable to create 3D scene' error) and the highest one working is 8x. In my opinion texture filtering doesn't look any good so I don't use it.
You can do some experiments with dgVoodoo2 options using dgVoodooCpl.exe in dgVoodoo2 folder. To make the DLLs use your options, you have to copy dgVoodoo.conf file from the dgVoodoo2 folder to the WA folder (where you initially copied the dgVoodoo2 Dlls)

P.S: Hey Aryan and Patrick...do you think that we should pin that theme and put it in the top?
I say that cause the most people might still have the same problem like me so in order to find it faster, we should pin this theme.
I will be putting this in the Wonderland Games Troubleshooting topic. It would be good if that topic is pinned because it will really help a number of users. :)

Thanks,
Aryan

Double Post!
I don't think that this Step 3 is necessary since Wonderland Games only use DirectX for rendering.

3) After extracting dgVoodoo v2.55.4, go in dgVoodoo file and after in 3Dfx file and x64 (QEmu) if you have 64bit Windows 7,8 and 10 of course and copy Glide.dll, Glide2x.dll, Glide3x.dll.
You can try removing those three files and run the WA games.

Sofoulini & Aryan,

You guys are AWESOME! Finally got mine to work by following Sofoulini directions. :stinkyhappy:

I am having one issue, my mouse won't reach the menu or item box in the game. Games res is set to 800x600 full screen. I tried the window version part and you cant see either box. Any suggesions?

PS: Nevermind, changed it to 1024x768, now my mouse reaches.

You are welcome John.
We are so glad that we helped you and I hope everyone will enjoy playing all WA games in their laptops with Windows 10.

Now me and Aryan are trying to solve the lag problem of WA:POTZ. Still, not a solution yet about it.

I wonder too if another players have the above problem with the lag on WA:POTZ.

I never faced lag in my playthrough of PotZ, but I did have a lot of lag in certain WA3 Editor levels. However, I have reason to believe my laptop just couldn't handle them, as they were mostly really BIG levels and my laptop is a puny weakling.

But if it was true, my friend rainbowmon, then our laptops wouldn't be able to handle and other WA games cause they have big levels too.

Well, still no solution about it.
I wonder if Aryan has better luck than me.

True. I'm not sure what level it was. It had a Jade Palace texture though. Like the one at the end of TOW. I may check later and see if I can figure out which one it was. Maybe there was something in it my laptop didn't like...

Or if in case you use dgVoodoo2 on WA games, well, it might need a change in its display settings which means that dgVoodoo 2 settings need a change of course.

But we need to find that change, that change that will gonna make WA:POTZ and WA3E to work without any lag.

Ok buddy...I will tell you with few words what DgVoodoo 2 is:

DgVoodoo is a legacy DirectX and 3DFX Glide wrapper program.
The purpose of this software is to translate or wrap function calls to old, legacy graphics API (application programming interface) functions into calls to the much more modern Direct3D 11.
In other words, it acts as a translator, changing old games to run with newer, modern graphics techniques. Using the wrapper is very easy, and you can try it with any game that uses DirectX or Direct Draw versions 1 to 8, or any game that uses 3DFX/Glide. Of course, since this software uses Direct3D 11, you will need a graphics card or chip capable of using this version of DirectX.

That's the explanation about DgVoodoo.

What laptop do you have? If it is old, then definitely you will face a lag.
WA Editor should run better from Intel(R) HD 2000 (which I have) to the best one without any problems although I noticed that you'll have to use dgVoodoo2 for running them in Intel(R) HD 5xx series and later GPUs. I think same goes for nVIDIA and AMD GPUs.

See the specs for yourself. I got it in 2015. It's TERRIBLE.

You use a lot of softwares, I have seen. It may happen that your CPU is not having resources to run some adventures of WA Editor. WA Editor do really requires full one core of CPU.
I think your GPU is faster than mine... So it shouldn't be of any issue.
You should definately buy a gaming PC.

Wait.

How do you know I use a lot of software? I haven't mentioned that at all...

Edit: I haven't played the game in a while. This was taken a few weeks ago, and I was multitasking at the time, so if that's what you meant, know that I don't normally do that. Also, there's only three windows open there. The others are taskbar shortcuts.

Oh, sorry.

But I think your CPU is not much fast. I think it should be the reason for slowness. I am saying this because in 1803, I don't have lags in big levels. Even my GPU is slower than yours.

I still don't have any other clues for this. If you have antivirus like BitDefender, then it is known for these issues.

I'll get it eventually.

Hey Aryan. Did you find something about that lag?
Do you think that I should changed something from the settings of DgVoodoo 2?

Till now, I'm unable to find the cause and solution. Also, I dgVoodoo2 does not work in my computer (WA games MAV on starting) so I can't try it out.

Sorry, but I am sure we will find a reason and a solution soon. :P

Finally (thanks to MS for releasing the source code), I found the real cause of the "Unable to set graphics mode" problem you'll had...

Sofia and john the problem is that your graphics card does not support 800x600 resolution in 3D mode (at least by Blitz3D). The problem caused here is by this code in launcher.bb:

Code: Select all

	If GfxMode=-1
		For j=0 To NofMyGfxModes-1
			If MyGfxModeWidth(j)=800 And MyGfxModeheight(j)=600 And MyGfxModeDepth(j)=32
				GfxMode=j
			EndIf
		Next
	EndIf
	If GfxMode=-1
		For j=0 To NofMyGfxModes-1
			If MyGfxModeWidth(j)=800 And MyGfxModeHeight(j)=600 And MyGfxModeDepth(j)=16
				GfxMode=j
			EndIf
		Next
	EndIf
Here the game checks if 800x600 resolution supports 32-bit or 16-bit colours, however since your graphics card didn't support the 800x600 resolution, the GfxMode returned is always -1 and that causes the error to happen.

I am soon releasing a fix for this so you'll will no longer need dgVoodoo2, so just hang on.

BUG FIXED!

Post by Lazy Loof » Fri Jun 07, 2019 1:40 pm

Yay, the fix is ready! Download here: https://archive.zbots.space/files/Launcher_Fix.zip

How To Install?
Uninstall dgVoodoo2 first (an extra step 6 is there for this)
The zip file has four folders:

WA1 containing fixed Wonderland.exe for WA1 (or just Wonderland Adventures)
STEP 1: Open this folder. (zip file -> WA1)
STEP 2: Right click Wonderland.exe and click Copy
STEP 3: Go into your WA1 (Wonderland Adventures) directory i.e the directory in which you have installed Wonderland Adventures/WA1
STEP 4: Right click on empty space in that folder and click Paste
STEP 5: You will now get a window stating - The destination already has a file named "Wonderland.exe" - simply click on "Replace the file in the destination".
STEP 6: Find the files Glide.dll, Glide2x.dll, Glide3x.dll, DDraw.dll, D3DImm.dll, D3D8.dll and delete them one by one.
STEP 7: Find the file "display.wdf" in this folder, if it is there then delete it.
STEP 8: Click on Wonderland.exe, simply click PLAY! You can also set the resolution here if you want (but do that before clicking PLAY!)

WA2 containing fixed Wonderland.exe for Wonderland Adventures Mysteries of Fire Island
STEP 1: Open this folder. (zip file -> WA2)
STEP 2: Right click Wonderland.exe and click Copy
STEP 3: Go into your WA2 (Wonderland Adventures Mysteries of Fire Island) directory i.e the directory in which you have installed Wonderland Adventures Mysteries of Fire Island
STEP 7: Click on Wonderland.exe, simply click PLAY! You can also set the resolution here if you want (but do that before clicking PLAY!)

WA3 containing fixed Wonderland.exe for Wonderland Adventures Planet of the Z-bots
STEP 1: Open this folder. (zip file -> WA3)
STEP 2: Right click Wonderland.exe and click Copy
STEP 3: Go into your WA3 (Wonderland Adventures Planet of the Z-bots) directory i.e the directory in which you have installed Wonderland Adventures Planet of the Z-bots
STEP 7: Click on Wonderland.exe, simply click PLAY! You can also set the resolution here if you want (but do that before clicking PLAY!)

WA Editor containing fixed player.exe for WA Editor
STEP 1: Open this folder. (zip file -> WA Editor)
STEP 2: Right click player.exe and click Copy
STEP 3: Go into your WA Editor directory i.e the directory in which you have installed WA Editor
STEP 4: Right click on empty space in that folder and click Paste
STEP 5: You will now get a window stating - The destination already has a file named "player.exe" - simply click on "Replace the file in the destination".
STEP 6: Find the files Glide.dll, Glide2x.dll, Glide3x.dll, DDraw.dll, D3DImm.dll, D3D8.dll and delete them one by one.
STEP 7: Click on player.exe, simply click PLAY! You can also set the resolution here if you want (but do that before clicking PLAY!)

Hope this works!

Note regarding Mysteries of Fire Island and Planet of the Z-bots
If you still have the error, follow the steps:
1. Open the folder in which you have installed the game.
2. Look for a folder named "GameData". Now you will have any one of these two cases
Case 1 - The GameData folder exists.
Case 2 - The GameData folder is not there.
3. Now follow the steps according to the case listed above.
If you have case 1 -
a. Open the GameData folder
b. Find the file "display.wdf"
c. If you found that file, right click it and select delete and then delete it from the Recycle Bin too
If you have case 2 -
a. Type "%localappdata%" in the Windows Explorer address bar without the quotes and press enter.
b. Find the "Midnight Synergy" folder and open it.
c. Open the "WA MOFI" or "WA POTZ" folder depending on the game (MOFI for Mysteries of Fire Island and POTZ for Planet of the Z-bots)
d. Find the file "display.wdf"
e. If you found that file, right click it and select delete and then delete it from the Recycle Bin too

If you didn't got "display.wdf" in either of these and still having the same error then please post here.
If it worked, then also please post here.

Thanks!
