*repacker - refers to forum member who "mix-mastered" original models which came to us originally by other forum members. It has come to my attention that when so doing, the repacker always runs the risk of omitting jpegs and possibly other vital information which may be necessary to keep the models in their original condition.
Because this has happened, I personally am trying to come up with a solution to this which will perhaps take the form of a 2nd party doing a level test containing the re-packed models. The Forum level tester should take special care to note that all jpegs are included in the folders provided.
Caveat: Sometimes a skin may be left off due to a specific purpose by the repacker for his/her custom level. And in general, Arches, columns and floors tiles, Screens and Billboards are constantly receiving a new face-lift with unique new skins for specific purposes.

Well all those beginning with jg are janetgalle's, all those beginning with sfs are sfseaman's, and one of, if not both, of his beach models had a turtle in it too.

Snakesnladders I made. It's a floor model with a snakes and ladders board on it. About 14x14 or 16x16 something like that, can't quite remember. Link is here http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic ... 2641#12641

I noticed that there was still a wonky level in that thread so I have deleted the wonky one and the correct one is further down the page.

The MADbonfire I think I made. It's a model of a bonfire obviously that takes up just over a tile. Don't have the link for that cos I didn't post it, it was in with a Guy Fawkes level.

I have no information and am seeking same on all that have no link beside the model name

Thanks for the 2 which I have editted to date. :D and I will do a search for the Guy Fawkes level asap.
Also appreciate data on Steves models as his forum status appears to be inactive.

Sorry for the lag time. I had to get out and do some gardening. Beautiful day here, wish I could send some sunshine out to everyone :D

Hope this helps. I do not have the links to posts. The names are those of the level maker. Except for sfsfog by sfseaman, up to May 17, 2005 the name I listed was the only person having used the level. So it is a fair assumption that they created, or mixmastered, the level also.

I can fill in more of the level and by whom data you are missing in the two catalogs. But it seems you do want the post data, which I do not have. When I have more time, I will try searching and see if I can find more for your catalog.

This will be very helpful I am sure. I appreciate all the time it took for you to compile this information for the catalog. :D

PS (As to making Volume II sticky, I will add more links into the Main Volume and Vol.II so that you can link back and forth more quickly)

It is my hope that the fully compiled & editted Volumes I & II will be released here in June. This third portion I am hoping to use for overflow, BRAND NEW MODELS and other information as it becomes available.

Here's the link to the original posting of popo3drudolph. There's a readme in the folder.
http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic ... 1616#11616

Here's the one for popo3dxmas http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic ... 4152#14152
There's a readme in here too. There should only be 3 model files in the folder, but there are four. It seems Rudolph sneaked in there while I wasn't looking. He's model4.

Popowindfall, I have down as popowindfall1 and the link is here http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic ... 1224#11224 It contains the audi and swimming pool models that you may have got down seperately. No read me as they were part of a level.

Egypt was for a level made by Lillie - or Lillian at the time I think - it contains model1-large pyramid, model2-skeleton-no texture for this(made by jg I think), model3-Tut's mask, model4-signpost with camel. I made the other 3 models with the textures. No readme as it was for a level, and I don't have the link for it either.

Willie was made for jcvalcar2's Willie Winky level. It contains model1-large suspended sunclock, model2-alarm clock with face, model3-giant padlock, and model4-double 4 poster bed. No link for this one either.

Toybox was another one for Lillie. Model1-giant Stinky head(by sfseaman), model2-jack in the box, model3-giant gumball machine, model4-group of balloons. No link for this on either.

Ghostie is a giant RTW ghost that I made for someone for a level contest. Don't have the link.

Kidsfunm contains a slide and a train that I posted as a group of toys. It also contains a jpg that shouldn't be there, I think it should be a wood texture, and not named model1.jpg. I don't think it would show up right in the level. Sometimes when people use models from another folder they forget to copy the jpgs over and the model gets corrupted. :? The slide model was originally posted as popo3dslide and the train as popokidstrain.
EDIT. Forgot to add the link for the slide and train. http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic ... 2051#12051

To keep the catalogue cleaner, if models are being posted twice, I would only post the original one in the catalogue, because as I said above, some models are getting corrupted as they move around. It's not good to have corrupted models in the catalogue.

Pauline,

I would appreciate a clarification of this as I am only compiling data for the catalog, I am not changing model files.

Levelmakers (myself included) have taken models out of their original pack and, as we have been encouraged to do, used them in a mix and match fashion.

Personally, for the huge number of models here, I have only spotted a few which might be considered "corrupted".

So please clarify what it is you are saying here as it would be a shame if people were afraid to use the catalog because of a misunderstanding

Thank you

I mean when people take one model out of a model pack to use in another one and either don't take all the relevant jpgs or change a jpg that shouldn't be changed. The model then ends up 'corrupted' for want of a better word.

Let me try and explain how it works.

When I make a model I can either colour it in the program so it doesn't need a jpg, or I can texture it so it does need one or more jpgs, or I can do a mixture of both.

If the model is textured and has just one jpg then it can be named model#.jpg or the original texture name eg. wood.jpg and it will show up fine either way.

If the model is a mixture of colour and texture then the jpg/jpgs have to keep the original names because if you change them to model#.jpg all of the model gets coloured with it. Not textured note, but coloured with the predominent colour in the jpg.

The example I gave you of the playground slide would show what I meant. It originally had a wood.jpg texture for part of it and colour for the rest. In one of the links you gave to that model that someone else had altered the wood.jpg texture was replaced by a skin coloured model#.jpg. Therefore the whole of the model would become skin coloured. This might be what the person intended it to look like or they might have thought only the wood part would be changed, but as they don't know what they are doing they end up with a model which is messed up.

What I was complaining about is that these models might end up linked to me as the maker when I didn't do it to them. Certain models can have things changed by someone else and it's ok, custom floors for instance, are made to have different jpgs put on them. Most models on the other hand have the textures assigned while being made and they should stay that way, or the maker should be asked to assign a different texture.

You wouldn't buy a car and then start taking bits out of the engine and replacing them with Lord knows what would you? So models, on the whole, unless otherwise stated should be left the way they are intended.

I'm not complaining of model packs being split as long as they are split correctly. Is that clear enough for you?

Popo you said:
Is that clear enough for you?

I got the gist of it before, but I thought that perhaps there might have been some confusion for newer people who may be unfamiliar with custom models, etc and how they work or dont work.

Regarding the duplicate entry for floors, It was listed twice on Mettes site: once in the group which had been made prior to January 20th 2005 and a second time in the group which were listed from April 19th 2005 to May 18th 2005.

I was also given information, apparently incorrectly, My apologies Pauline, as to another Modelmaker. (to whom I thought the duplicate model name might be attributed. )

Apologies accepted but not necessary, I just wanted to clear it up.

Can I take it then that you don't actually check what's in the folders that the links point to? I ask because, like I said before, I can't see the point of having two different links to the self same model. For one thing it makes the catalogue bigger than necessary. The other reason is that if you don't check then you could be pointing someone to an above described 'corrupted' model when they should be directed to the proper one.

This would be a lot of extra work for you, which is why I was pointing it out when it was one of my models. I can give you the links for all the models I have ever posted if you can give me half a day to sort it out. I just want to help you make the catalogue as clean as possible.

Here's something else that's wrong.
Kazza80M / popo (appears to be dupl. of popoplants1 model pack./
http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3421(highlight item in red?)
Because the folder to this model is not the same name as the
model folder within it, the models do not show up.)
Suggestion: use popoplants1 link: http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1357
The top link works fine, I tried it, and yes it is a duplicate of the plants pack. The bottom link is for a level by Kaboom, no model files there. :?

I've never actually been on Mette's site to download any models so I don't really know what's up there, but I suppose if she has every model ever posted on there then there are bound to be some 'bad uns' amongst them. Without going through them all I wouldn't know which ones weren't right.

EDIT.
Just been for a look on Mette's site. There are loads of duplicated files on there and what's confusing is that the headings say all models made from # to # when it should really say all models posted from # to #. The duplicates are from when someone makes a level and posts the attachment for the model pack used instead of a link. Mette must just upload whatever's there without checking if it's already up there.

If you're using her site as a basis for the catalogue then it will be very confusing for you.

Clerical Work in General

Post by jobec5 » Mon May 07, 2007 1:59 pm

Good Day to you Pauline

Clerical work is never easy at best. Back in 2004 there were fewer custom items to deal with but I think that Mettes site was and remains a valuable resource for many forum members. It all depends upon your viewpoint I guess. Now at my age I dont have to work outside of my home, but many others do and that takes a lot of time and energy.

I do apologize for any misunderstanding which may have arisen on my part due to lack of critical knowledge or other things.

So now that the Kazza80M model name only exists off-forum, I can safely delete it from this catalog now to alleviate any further confusion.

You also said earlier:

Actually Pauline I do try to look at whatever I can. When I first started the catalog I knew there would be inconsistancies and errors but as I stated also, I believe that these things will all get smoothed out in some fashion over the course of time. We have enough room at this point to leave most of the repacked models in for now. I know, for example that at least one of the ones I repacked has been used as it is. I am trying to generate a list to send you via pm of your models that I need assistance on . But for the most part, your model names tend to be very informative and the read-me files invaluable.

Hope this clears it up.

Have a Wonderful Day
Always

Hope you all can make good use of the catalog and find it to be user friendly. I did the best I could with the tools that I had. And many thanks to all of you kind folks who helped to make it more complete.

Modelmakers who voluntarily sent everything needed, many many thanks.
Good luck and God Bless

Respectfully
Becky
