Easy things to get wrong in textures (need help sorry)

Post by billy bob » Mon Mar 16, 2009 3:27 pm

Hello. This is what i did to make a texture (using the manual of course)
first I went to paint (if you want to you can suggest something better than
paint) and then put the screen to 64 by 64 then put thirteen textures (to
go with the main texture) then I went to the page which has all the folders
in next I made a folder in custom textures (with blue and lush) and put the
title of my texture in, and then I put all the textures in paint into the folder
that I made, next I put all the names in that was in the manual e.g.
sign.jpg (copied and pasted) and I didn't accidentally copy any of the
comas (or ands) they were all complete all the right names in the folder
with the name of my texture inside
the custom textures folder.
Then i went to editor, made a test level
and pressed T with shift of course.
(with a QWERTY keyboard) and typed in the name of my texture the which
is also the EXACT SAME NAME as the folder with my textures in, (inside the textures folder)
then pressed enter and you could see the
name of your texture in the left bottom corner of the editor. next I pressed
on the textures button until it said custom then I saved the level and tested it

BUT

there was a normal texture that was already on their!
I think it picked the normal texture because it didn't recognize the texture i put in!

that means i must have gone wrong somewhere.....

Does any one have any suggestions of easy mistakes and things that I did wrong (that were at the start of this post)

sorry by the way for needing help and being a little more on the dumb side of things! :| :| :|

(by the way I hope i posted this in the right area :? )

Also maybe you have to put something in capitals?

Sounds like you did everything right............Why don't you zip up your new texture and upload it, someone will surely have a look to see what the problem is.

You said you put the names on each picture, like sign.jpg, but did you actually write 'sign.jpg' or just 'sign'? You don't need to put the .jpg bit, your computer does that bit so you should just write sign or floor1 or wallb etc. You do need to save the pictures as jpgs though, and make sure they are exactly 64 x 64 or 128 x 128 or 256 x 256 because you may have got a video card that won't recognise them if they even just one pixel out.

You haven't uploaded the texture by the way, just the level you made to test it. You need to upload the level and the texture. You'll need to zip the folder you made in CustomTextures. To do that right click the folder and select 'Send to' and then select 'Compressed (zipped) folder'. Then you can upload the zipped folder.
