I have an other double post...

but I've been looking through some(all) of the old posts on this topic..,
I think I am addicted to this thread.
when I noticed that there was this 8 queens on an 8x8 chess board thang.

Well, you know how to do that.
What if you had nine queens in a game of chess that could not eliminate an other queen without cheating?

And, nope, there are no other pieces on the board.

feel free to use the quote button to use this as a chess board!

Please use some obviously different looking thing for the queens - I'd recommend either using "X", "Ø", or "¶".

@ Jutomi: It would be impossible to put 9 queens on an 8x8 board, because at least one queen would have to be in each row and column.

Wait... are you asking this to see if anyone else can come up with anything, or do you actually have a solution?

@Krishiv: Adding to what Jutomi said, you only stated that there are two doors. You never said anything about windows, or even a missing wall. Am I right about the answer?

I have the solution...

and, I assure you, it's possible to have 9 queens in one game like this!

It's just a matter of figuring out just how.

Now, I don't think 10+ would be possible, but that's an other story for an other day - possibly like two years later,
much like how I recovered this old tale of somewhat slightly old.

Okay there is a window but it is grilled with a metal which has melting point higher than 200.Missing walls?,what are you telling about?

The doors lead to exit doors, there is no third door which leads the exit doors.

How?:The hint I had provided was how I created the code out of the sentence. Jutomi thought we have to +1,-1 the letters but doing it wont get the answer, doing the opposite of it gets the answer.

Puzzle:A man is trapped in the room, there are two doors each leading to exit.First door leads to a huge magnifying glass which reflects sunlight to produce heat, anything will burn there.Second door leads to a fire-breathing dragon(some scientists mutated a lizard into fire-breathing dragon. How can the man go the the exit without getting hurt?
Rotate the magnifying glass to the window and melt the bars. Then climb through the window.

The magnifying glass has size of the whole room,as you can say transparent glass ceiling which burns anything which enters in it(except metals). The room is in the last floor of the skyscraper, the magnifying glass is strong enough to withstand rocks and fire.

Why didn't I think of that.
If my answer is correct, I applaud you for the misdirection with the fire breathing dragon.

@Jutomi: It is impossible for there to be only 9 queens on the board. Placing pawns or other pieces are required.
UNLESS you mean there are black and white queens?

I'm telling you, it's 100% possible to have 9 queens in a game of chess that can't destroy an other queen without cheating.

And, I guess I could be more clear about the fact that they are, indeed, all contradictory colors.
(Some guy(me) decided to give away a game of chess consisting of queens in colours like pink, brown, green, and cerulean)
And, I assure you, there are no other pieces on the board. :D

The question is more or less a "How is this possible" kind of thing.
Oh, and... sorry about not stating that each queen on the board, if lined up, could pretty much take an other out. I just sort of presumed it was implied!
(But almost nothing is)

This is a solution to jutomi's puzzle.
Double post, but I was posting when I saw this. :P

This is good... but where's the ninth queen? :D
Oh... all so, you're using an 8x9 board, I think...
and, naup, that, I assure you, was not the answer I had at mind.

Scratch that, I miscounted before leaping.

No you were right the first time there's only eight. Also it's impossible for there to be nine.

And I'm telling you, it's 0% possible. Unless you use an unfair trick or a larger board, it defies logic to have 9 queens on an 8X8 chess board without one being in the attacking range of another.

It's only possible to fit all queens on the board if you have a pawn, but you don't, so it's not possible. Or all the queens are your color so you can't eliminate them or something cheap like that. Or there's an actual queen standing on the board.

I'm guess the next one in the sequence would have been pretty much some random quote on top of asking the same question again.

After all, guessing 32.# and 1113213211 didn't seem to work. :|

However... really, if that's not the case, I don't know what is - at which case, I'd love a hint.

Correct! Here's another one:

Which number is next in the sequence?

1

Good luck!

As for that silly queen puzzle, I can't wait to find out the answer so I can then cry myself to something because these riddles burn more and more each time

Perhaps the queens aren't on spaces? Perhaps they're on different points throughout the chess board where they're not threatening each other but those points aren't necessarily squares? I think there's a trick somewhere, Jutomi.

Well, the part about the different points...
I don't know, I'd think that doing that would count as cheating, unless there is some sort of chess gaming style that I have yet to know about.

The part directly after that...
Maybe.

Maybe they're not all on at the same time? Maybe some are created later with pawn promotion?
Probably a long shot, but it's my best guess. (And no hints on StinkerSquad's puzzle? Really? :? )

Is the answer "Not 1"?

Oh, and naup, I do mean that they're all in this game at the same time.

Though... that is a very interesting concept to think about, for sure. :D
