Ib and Ao Oni Discussion [Horror Games]

While I was sailing about the interwebs, I managed to find a very interesting game called "Ib". It's a horror adventure game that is very detailed, has multiple endings, a great storyline, unique puzzles, and isn't exactly "scary" except for a very few bits.

You're basically exploring an art gallery by yourself while your parents are at the front desk, then everyone vanishes and everything starts to change.

It was made by a Japanese guy, but has been translated. You can download the English version of the game here:
http://vgboy.dabomstew.com/other/ib.htm

Once you unzip it, be sure to run the "RTPMaker.exe" file first so that the game can run properly. F4 toggles windowed and fullscreen mode.

Like Yume Nikki is it?

I'll try playing this game one night with me and the game recorded for my first experience and reactions to several scary bits. I was going to do the same thing for when I get Dark Descent one day

I've played Yume Nikki before (although I've never beaten it) and Ib isn't as extremely random as Yume Nikki is, but it's pretty out there.

I'm actually considering replaying this sometime since I just found out I never got the best ending. :)

Beat it, though apparently not with the best ending. The story was scary, though the random surprises were not in my opinion. There was something really terrifying about, in some of the worse endings, when

I've read that there are a lot of variables that decide which ending you get, such as your relationship with Gary. :)

I don't find the random surprises scary at all, however I do jump a little bit because of the random noise popping out of nowhere.

This game now has a Wikipedia page:

Using a guide, I managed to get the best ending (Promise of Reunion). I have to say that it's my favorite ending, and it possibly hints at an "Ib 2" if one is ever made. The worst ending is really saddening though, I feel really bad for Garry. :(

Well, that's unfortunate.

Is there a wiki on this game? I'm one of the people who always reads up on it before playing it (If I find anything like FACE in it I'm going to scream) .
EDIT: Not wikipedia I'm talking about Wikia. Reason being is that Wikipedia only tells you the highlights. Wikia tells you everything about it.

I haven't seen anything that resembles FACE. Here's the only Wikia I could find:

Does anyone know how you're supposed to figure out that you need to push the table with the vase on it left like 3 spaces? (it's in the room that you had to enter the code from the "Hanged Man" painting to get into) I didn't see any hints anywhere and just got lucky when pushing it around for awhile.

Everyone says to just push it around in the room until a box pops up.

So there's no real hints in-game? That's very strange. :?

I figured that I should go ahead and post this other game here too (and I've updated the thread title):

Ao Oni

Image

It's another game made in RPG Maker, and it has quite a lot of puzzles. Basically you and your friends go to explore an abandoned house that's haunted, only it really IS haunted, and you have to escape the giant purple monsters that live there.

The only thing that really scares me at all in this game is the door sound effect playing out of nowhere when the monster randomly decides to start chasing you.

Download Instructions:

Install this before playing the game: http://www.mediafire.com/?kado29sz8d3p6xs
It's the SDK for whatever version of RPG Maker was used to make the game. It's required in order to play.

The game itself: http://www.mediafire.com/?850gf7zbsaf5ibm
This is the English version of the game.

What do you do after you click the switch in the black area?
EDIT: Nevermind I fixed it.

Can you provide a screenshot? I'm afraid I don't know where you're talking about. :?

After the red area there's a black area. I fixed the problem though.
All I did was go through the labyrinth
and
gave the eye eyedrops afterwards
so
I got a red bulb thing
now
I'm going to see where the bulb goes
BTW this is IB.

Oh I see, I was thinking that you were talking about Ao Oni instead, my bad! :)

Ao Oni can be very illogical sometimes, so try to do some things that you normally wouldn't think of.

The bookcase will be moved after you do something (I can't remember exactly what it was, but it's after the umbrella).
Umbrella Spoiler! wrote:If you've gotten the fisherman and the hook to show up in their paintings, have Garry hook the umbrella to the hook, and have Ib get the umbrella and give it to the "Lady Without Her Umbrella" painting.
If you need help getting the fisherman and hook to show up, let me know. :)

That manequin head room was necissary? D: I hate the manequin heads. They creep me out. But if I want to finish the game.
EDIT: How does the hook thingy work? Do you have to pull the cord in The poison room or something?
EDIT2: BTW I saw "Red Eyes" when I went into the purple library again.

Yes.
llarson wrote:EDIT: How does the hook thingy work? Do you have to pull the cord in The poison room or something?
You should be able to use Garry to hook the umbrella onto the hook (through the dialog) and get Ib to obtain it in her inventory.

Thanks :) I finished it just now. My ending wasn't that bad, but not that good either. I'm going to reload the game from later and see what I get.
