The new competiton idea.

Post by Muzozavr » Mon Sep 11, 2006 12:45 pm

I've got an idea for the competition to create the hardest level. There will be more than enough hard levels, as Small World II has shown. :x
The rules:
1. The size is not limited, but please don't make it TOO large, cause most people won't play levels with a size of a football field (and you get less points)
2. NO GLITCHES except as a pure decoration. (If you want glitches, you may make an another competition idea of a most glitchy level. )
3. No hex-editing, cause it will be unstable on a lot of systems.
4. That's all.

About other things (like scoring, etc...) I'm uncertain...
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

Actually, a suggestion (but feel free to ignore): I know that some people find a lot of the custom levels nowadays too hard (look at also the feedback for the Small World II competition... many people didn't manage to complete all of the levels for judging, you might get similar feedback for a "Hard Levels" competition).

So how about this suggestion: Make the funnest level that would also be considered "easy" by most. The challenge would be to create a level that really only contains basic/standard puzzle types as to not create any headaches, but use them in a way that makes the level the freshest and funnest of the bunch. I think this would actually be an interesting challenge for level creators: to come up with ways to make the level fun and new and interesting, without simply increasing the difficulty level. The way the level flows, the visuals, replayability, etc could all be factors.

I don't want to hijack this thread from Muzozavr, but what do you folks think of that idea? I could even be made into an official compo (i.e. with prizes).

Your idea is very, very great! :D However, I think that both competitions (your and mine) should be both running here on this forum (but of course in separate threads) and here's why:
The fun easy level will be certainly enjoyed by a lot of people. However, there are ALWAYS people who enjoy an extreme challenge. Furthermore, sometimes the extreme difficulity can draw in (though with uncareful crafting it can draw out as well). So, with both competitions truly ANYONE will enjoy.
