FACTORYDLCS10 & 11 Levels Escaping - Part 1 & Escapi

Post by Dee » Sat Aug 25, 2007 5:49 am

When I try to play this level, I get this error message:
_ _ _ _
ERROR
_ _ _ _
Couldn't load Texture: customtextures\THEFACTORY\walltop.jpg. Flag 1
Press Esc to Exit.

Pressing Esc closes RTW and I must restart the game and choose a new level.

Any one out there know what my problem is? I sure would like some help??? This has happened with other levels, too. The only part of the message that changes is the path. It always says "Couldn't load Texture: customtextures\". The reset of the path is determined by the level I am trying to start.

It seems like you either have the 3.00 version of the game (when you start, check it again in the top right corner -- if it says 3.00 upgrade to 3.01 from MS site to be able to play without downloading custom textures) or got bitten by the double-folder problem that happens because of some unzippers being weird.

If you unpack a texture via one of those unzippers, you DO get a folder named correctly, but look inside, there's not a texture, but ANOTHER folder with the same name which contains the texture.

But the game doesn't look further than one folder, and if you have one folder, it thinks you've got the texture and doesn't revert to the defaults.
There you have it. Sorry for me being clear as mud but I'm very sleepy right now and talk too techy.

Thanks so much for the response!

I did check as you suggested and I have v3.01. So, I guess I did get bitten.

Now I'm definately not a techie, but I did understand your explanation of the double-folder problem. I just don't know how to solve it. I have searched my pc for any files with THEFACTORY, Walltop, and/or Flag 1 as part of the file name. I found a file named TheFactory in my Custom Textures file. It had 13 documents, one named Walltop, but it did not contain any other file folder.

I recently downloaded Mette's complete downloads and unzipped them all into my custom texture file. So, I'm pretty sure I have the current versions of all the levels, textures, models, and houses.

I don't have any other ideas about solving this problem. Any suggestions most welcome!!!

There might be also another problem: if you have a GeForce videocard, some textures/models/houses/etc will not work for you, because GeForce is incedibly picky when it comes to sizing those textures/houses/models/backgrounds: each image can only be 64x64 or 128x128 or 256x256 or 512x512 size and won't load even if it's one pixel off.

Hi Dee - I used top have the double folder problem too because there wasn't a tick in the box as in the screenshot under "Use Folder Names".

When downloading a texture, I always click "open" and then "select all" the files and click on "extract" and then extract them into the CustomTextures folder. I know the screenshot says CustomModels - but just ignore that - I was just using it as an example!

Sorry the screenshot is so big, it got distorted when I tried to make it smaller

Good luck - hope this helps :D

It's if you use WinZIP, I don't think the standard unzipper has that option. (it's crap anyway)
Just check the result.

Here Dee, try this zip file. Extract it into your custom texture folder. I was having the sme troubles because of my graphics card and I just went thru all the folders and resized some (ok I resized a lot of them) to 64X64.

Thanks to everyone for responding!!

A new card (graphics??/video??) was recently installed by a friend, but I don't know if it was a GeForce videocard. After the installation, I was unable to even load this game. Something about the 3D ????? Any way, he adjusted some settings and everything seemed OK. Now I get this funny error message.

I will check all of your suggestions. And I will check with the friend who installed the card. Maybe there is something else he forgot to do in the settings.

I will check back with you if Iim unable to solved the problem.

uneekrose, I got your PM. Thank you. I will try your zip file.

Thanks again to everybody,

OK here's the thing. I've been having some problems reinstalling my cordless laser mouse, for some reason it's not being recognized thru the USB port. I've been doing some major house cleaning and my PC was unpluged for a day. Don't know why it didn't recognize my mouse after I rehooked everything back to it. But.....anyhoo......

Have your friend go into the BIOS, on my PC I have to hit F1 when it first boots up. Tell him to search for the graphics card and change it from PCI to AGP or visa versa. Check and see which graphic card was installed so you change it to the right one. Let me know as I am a curious person.
