Attached is a full walkthrough with pictures. The rest of this post are some hints, for those who don't want everything to be given away.
HINTS BELOW
The 3 main areas in question are the button (boulder) room, the "mine room" (where you have the 4 powder kegs), and then the other half of the level, where your ultimately objective is to get the boulder onto the pink button.
The "invisible strangeness" in this level are actually UFO Motherships


In theory, you don't need to use the level editor to successfully solve this level. For the "mine room", the statue nearby gives you a crucial hint that, if you understand it, you can figure out where all the mines in the mine room are located. As for the UFO motherships in the rest of the level across the river, you can figure out where they are based on, for example, how the affect the Kaboom's movements, or the fact that if you try pushing a wooden box across certain spots the box won't go.
But hey, the level editor works too!

Hints for the button/boulder room
The objective is to get all the round, colored buttons without ever activating the white, square buttons (which will block the way to the exit).
The ghosts are there only as a nuisance. It's true that they can sometimes cause your boulders to past through a coin, but that's unintended, and although you might be able to use it to your advantage, most of the time it just screws things up. Ghosts are the only baddie I can use that won't accidentally trigger the white buttons.
You need to get the buttons in a certain order. For some buttons, the path to get to it will depend on certain coins being present, whereas for other paths, some of those very coins will need to be removed so that they don't block the way. So you'd need to do the former path first, then remove some coins, and then do the latter path. Keep this in mind. You probably want to figure out each button individually, and then figure out the order.
[edit: just notice that there's another way to do this w/o removing any coins, and maybe that's a little easier, but you still need to do things in the right order.]
Hints for the mine room
The statue's hint means this: the mines (UFO Motherships) in this room are arranged exactly the same way as the coins are in the previous room. With this information, you can simply make a map of the coins in the previous room, and use that to plan out safe paths for the powder kegs.
But go ahead and use the level editor instead if you want. I actually use the level editor myself when I playtest the level.

Remember that you don't need all the powder kegs. Three is enough to go across the river.
Hints for the other side of the river
1) Listen to the little green man and find the hidden bonus coins. Doing so will also open up the way for the Kabooms to come out. You'll need the Kabooms to complete this section.
2) You cannot waste the two wooden boxes. You need both of them in order to get the steel boxes in the zbot room. For the fire blocking the way to the zbot room, let something else take care of it. Likewise, don't waste wooden boxes on the fire surrounding the coin. Steel boxes are better for that purpose after all.
3) You also don't want to waste the powder keg until you're ready. Move it somewhere safe!
4) You'd notice that the boulder here is stuck to the ground, you can't push it in any direction. This is naturally caused by the presence of a UFO mothership on each side of the boulder. The pink button is to the left of the boulder, so you need to find a way to destroy the mothership to the left of the boulder. You can't use anything else to get the pink button, because the way is also blocked by 2 other motherships, which the boulder will destroy once you are able to push it.
You can of course use the powder keg to get rid of the mothership, but that will also kill Stinky in the process. Instead, consider a more indirect way, still involving the powder keg, to take out the mothership via explosion. Keep in mind that boxes can be used to influence the movement of baddies.
