New Level -- In the Middle of Nowhere

Post by Muzozavr » Tue Jan 20, 2015 12:31 pm

Not as big as the kilobytes say, the main area is even smaller than usual. The level is basically two islands and the rest is water.

Can you escape from the middle of nowhere?

EDIT: I got too excited and didn't check a few things. Version B is up.

EDIT 2: In a hurry I didn't realize one of the tricks was still possible. Version B is removed, version C is up.

EDIT 3: Replacing "C" with "D" by slightly changing the location of the top red teleporter. If you did C the intended way, this is of no difference.

I am unable to escape from the middle of nowhere, by my Stinky and Loof did.

Thanks!

Stinky and Loof escaped in 50 seconds (6:30 left) and did not touch one the reflectors.

That's strange... you shouldn't be able to do that.

PM me, please.

Found another way to complete this level without the button - but it takes longer.

I think I now see how you did it with the button -- hold on for a little bit!

It's not me - it's Stinky and Loof, in perfect cooperation. Anyway, PM was sent.

OK, now your solution(s) shouldn't work anymore!!

The button solution was neat, it's the other one that was a real "duh" moment for me.

Version B is up. Both possibilities are now accounted for.

Version B:

Now the button must be used, but although it takes longer, one reflector is still unneeded.

EDIT: I understood. I'm an idiot, I forgot one simple thing. I'll be back soon with a version that, hopefully, fixes this.

EDIT 2: Unfortunately, I had no choice, but to move the button one tile to the right. Version C is up. See if your solution still works.

I played your original version first and thought,"no way, that's much too easy."

I never saw a 'B' version so I was left with 'C', which required a completely different path and one I enjoyed more than the original. :D

Thank-you, these were both fun to solve.

Done version C - very different solution indeed. Very nice!

But I did not touch one of the boulders.

That sounds interesting. What goes where in order to produce such a solution?

Here: two boxes in the water, one reflector on top of box in water, one reflector on top island, one reflector and one boulder form a bridge to allow the second character on red-button duty to leave as well.

Argh, I missed the possibility of moving objects onto the top island. Still, though, this solution is much closer idea-wise, but done differently.

It's a bit embarrassing, but time for version D...

Sorry, Muzo

Slowly but surely these endless level versions are getting annoying.

Why don't you test (or let test...) your levels before you post them?
Are you aware that you constantly bump your threads at the cost of others?
I really like your ideas, but how to enjoy them if version xy is possibly the right one?

Come on! Let's have fun here!
And we don't need the perfect level for it. We just need a working one.

Best regards, Chip.

Version D: Done!

One reflector was left untouched.

I'm not even fixing this anymore (unless it's something major), I just want to know how it works...

Reflectors have just too many good properties than to throw them in the water...

The only way I can imagine this happening is if you "caught" a shot by pushing the reflector. If so, you're awesome but this really doesn't need a fix.

I do so in two instances in this level (the second instance two times), it's really not a big deal.

I consider this move a "quirk" and never design puzzles around it, unless I'm making a glitch level for my "Shadow" account. You can use the move, if you want to, of course, but I won't bother fixing loopholes that it creates unless it's something epically puzzle-breaking. In this case it's not, so I'm OK.
Chip wrote:Slowly but surely these endless level versions are getting annoying.

Because I used to test better. Apparently through a severe case of "I haven't designed anything for way too long", my testing capabilities went downhill and it took me a bit of time to notice that. Things like this did happen before, but not on every level.

It was excusable on "Deceptively Deceptive" because of how big and complicated that one was and because I wanted to release it in the last days of 2014. I had no excuses with this one.

I'll probably let someone test my levels the way Mark does. I think Amnon tests Mark's levels quite often.

Pre-Test

I'd love to be a personal tester for you - if I could solve any of them.
They're that good, even if there are a ton of loopholes. ;)
Your only little stinker that's absolutely NOT a z-bot by this name,
Jutomi~

Also, if you want to see my level list, here it is! :D

Oh, and my YT wonderland channel. Forgot about that.

Amnon tests Chips adventures. The two of them are a fantastic team! 8)

Marinus used to test my levels, but unfortunately he's no longer with us. :(
So now I check my own, and usually miss something. Often because I'm too eager to release them.

Speaking of which, I completed a new one yesterday, but I'm holding it back for now.
Today, I will concentrate on the latest incarnation of "In the Middle of Nowhere." :D

I'm happy to report back that Stinky and Loof have left the island.
I used every item and did not resort to any glitches to complete.

This was an epic puzzle, Muzo. 8)

So many awesome moves and clever uses for each item. :D
Finding the correct place and getting them there was quite the challenge.
Preserving a certain object was a necessity, since I fell for your misdirection.
The cool yellow TP move was my favorite. :)

One of your BEST, my friend! 8)
