New Level - Ascent I: The Underground

Post by cloudrac3r » Mon Mar 13, 2017 5:56 am

Feel free to just go ahead and download the level if you don't like reading or you are in a rush.

Since RoberTime has started a series, I thought that I might too. This level is the first in the Ascent series. There will most likely be 10-15 levels, but..... we'll see. ;) Hopefully I can upload fairly often as well.
The Ascent series will be focused more towards exploration and defeating or manipulating enemies than linear puzzles or crazy contraptions. I don't intend to build difficult Mark-style puzzles, confusing me-style devices, or intense enemy-dodging levels. In fact the overall difficulty should be fairly easy, since there aren't enough easy levels around for beginner players IMO. Another characteristic of this series is the time limit - if executed perfectly, you should have just over 30 seconds left on the clock. That's a lot of spare time once you know what you're doing, but it's fairly difficult if you're trying to figure it out. The series has no story at all, so feel free to play the levels in any order.

I'll most likely use textures from the Wonderland Nutters archives at some point in the future. Head here and you'll find a nice link to download all the textures at once.

I'll attempt to use RoberTime's difficulty rating convention as well.

If you get stuck, here's the video solution.

That's all! Go play it! I hope that I named it correctly this time.

The kaboom section on the bottom is a bit tricky to navigate quickly.

Not sure what the red button's for -- haven't seen any red gates in this level.

I'm also not sure about that yellow gate. It's probably supposed to make that section easier, somehow, but I didn't figure out the exact method for that. Just the blue button alone is enough for the rainbow spirit to do its job.

17 seconds left on the clock.
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

It's a HERRING!

Yes, it can improve the timing of the kabooms, but it is not really needed.

My best result is 43 seconds left on the clock.

There was originally a red gate, but I removed it. I forgot to remove the button, whoops. It guess it's now a herring.

The yellow button does indeed change the timing. It's too hard to explain in text, so I recorded a video for you. https://youtu.be/FvwYTez0sKg
