Ok, so I've used Wings3D for maybe like a week. I know how to make the models, I just don't know how to texture them properly.
When I get a textured model1.jpg to go with it, it only shows one solid colour on the whole object, I need it to look textured.
So.... any help please?
How do you texture Models in Wings3D?
First, I have no idea how to use Wings3D, but the same thing can happen in AC3D. It happens when a texture has been assigned to a model but it hasn't been mapped.
That is - you have told the program to use that texture but you haven't told it how to apply the texture to the model. Like if you want it wrapped around it, or the whole texture applied to each face, etc.
In AC3D there is a texture coordinator where you can apply the texture how you want it. There should be something similar in Wings3D. Have a good look in the drop down menus.
The problem occurs because the model takes the predominant colour from the texture and uses that to 'paint' the model. It will also happen if you have part of a model textured and part just self coloured and then name the texture model# instead of a texture name, but this usually happens in the game itself.
Hope you can understand all that.

Here's some help dlcs18, since I use Wings3D.
(Refer to the three numbered squares when I say each step)
1.
Goto UV Mapping > Direct
2.
Goto Segment By > Projection
The faces of your model will change colour.
3.
Goto Continue > Unfolding
You will see now to your right a texture, with borders showing the surfaces of your model. When you save your model (or export it as a 3ds file), a bmp will also be created there. I think, though I've been stupid enough not to
, that you just rename that and edit from there. When you're all done, save it as a jpg.
All good now?
