New Experience! A Birthday/Christmas cake to customise

Post by Robbie » Fri Oct 08, 2004 7:31 am

G'Day again from the land of OZ,

Coo... it's been a bit quiet in here hasn't it?

Well… it’s been a while coming but here is my first venture into the world of modelling… above & beyond my blobs, design ideas & other ramblings.

There maybe some calling for this in a level somewhere but it’s primary purpose is to dish up a treat to our special wonderland friends. Whether it’s a birthday, Christmas, Halloween (coming up for you guys in the states & elsewhere, UK? – not so big over here)

Attached to the model is a sample pic of what can be done. The humble beginnings of a Christmas cake from Australia to the world… a golden sponge cake, green icing & a chrissy kangaroo. Still have some letting to do & some other stuff but you get the picture.

Like Pat did with the housing models, I’ve also included a blank design that you can do up your own designs on. It’s self explanatory, cake top, front section, candle sides, top & even the wick for those of you dedicated enough. So whatever the occasion, no matter how far apart you live, there’s no excuse for not sending that someone special a little cake… and hey girls, there’s no calories!

File size is OK. Full colour JPG compressed by 30% - total just 145kb per image.

Just remember to create your own model directory with whatever name you want – keep it short with no spacing.
When you are in the level creator, press <<SHIFT & M>>> to open the little screen where you type in the name of the directory.
Make sure your picture & model are the same name ie Model1.3ds/Model1.jpg etc
Open up my level in the Level Creator to see where I put things.
If you are stuck, just post a reply & someone here will set the process out a little clearer.

Regards & have fun!
Robbie :D

PS. And for the faithful few modellers, the other attachment is my original AC3D files for the cake & design – just in case you want to play around with it.

somehow I forgot to comment on this, but I want to mention that the cake looks really nice. This would be top-notch even if you borrowed the model from the Internet, but you made it from scratch too!

I think with Popo, me and sfseaman "semi-retiring" from model work, you're quickly catching up and becoming the resident model expert here! Keep up the good work!

I'm glad you guys are only 'semi-retiring'. You've still got plenty of good mileage left in you.

I wouldn't be so hasty though to use a reference to me and the word 'expert' in the same posting... a bit of a hack maybe... like Pauline mentioned, over in the AC3D forums they seem to be light years ahead.

Though for those of us relatively inexperienced, it may be encouraging to consider that those real experts would have been in our position once upon a time as well...

There's hope for us still.

I don't have enough years left to become as expert as those people in the AC3D forums, I should've started when I was 3.

You are definitely way ahead of me Robbie. Most of my models have come straight off the internet. Some even complete with textures. Nothing to do but resize them.

I like to think that my offerings have just whetted your appetite, and that you'll become the Master Model Maker of Wonderland. 8)
