It is tricky but I did this one.

Surely I don't remember exactly how I finished, sorry!Which part? the part with the red buttons? With the orange button? Or even in the first part?
I don't know exactly anymore how I did it.
But the grow stops the spike and get it turn the direction I wanted it to go.
I held one on the red buttons so the other could go thru the door.
In between I recharged and put plants in the water next to the alley.
The last part would be obvious cos you know a lot more things now then at the start.
any helpful hints out there?
i'm stuck on this one. i can get two spikey's into the room with the two red buttons, but them i have no idea what to do next. i can't make grows fast enough and avoid the spikey's and direct them too...

Ommy, hi. You place one grow right east of the two buttons, then one S of the rightmost one. When spieky is getting close to the buttons, you place the last one on front of the leftmost button.

1. The two spikey in the room with the grow are used to clear the way to the room with two red buttons. I think you've got that, if I read correctly.
2. Charge your grow before continuing. In the room with two red buttons, stand at the red door and hold the UP keyboard button. When the spikey gets on those two buttons, you'll have just enough time to get through the gate.
3. You'll nee 2 or 3 grow now, depending on how you want to do it. There is a brown button in the alcove. If you step on it, you'll see it raises a bridge. Stand directly left of it. Make sure your other grow plants have expired. You'll shoot 1 grow on the floor tile that looks like a drain. This will turn the spikey to the water. Then, another grow in the southern most water so when the spikey goes down there, it bounces back up to the top and doesn't fall into the water. Now, for easy entrance to the next section, you can run up and shoot a grow next to the orange button to keep the spikey on it. Or, if you want to save Grows, you can try and get through that orange gate like you did the red one - just watch for fireballs.
4. Get through the orange gate. Make sure there are no grow plants still around and then shoot some grow to keep the crabs on the peninsula where they are. Then, herd them into the water so you can push the button. (You'll need a minimum of 3 for the crabs) You can also try to shoot one down in front of the fire flower to clear that corridor, but he shoots fast enough that you take a good chance at getting shot while aiming and firing your grow. I think it's easier to just run from alcove to alcove.
5. The last part with the transporters is really really easy and you should be able to easily see where to place grows to stop the transporter.
