WA Editor Tips and Tricks

Post by quick11 » Wed Nov 05, 2008 2:43 pm

I think there should be a section in which people could post a few tips for new adventure makers. It would really help, and experianced adventure makers might even learn something new! :D Also, everything will be found in one place.

Here's my tip: Ridiculous

Don't make your levels ridiculous. Don't have ten, fast-shooting FireFlowers and no barriers. Don't have super-slow Chompers that you can easily escape from. Make each puzzle use only a few elements, so it does not get confusing or ridiculous.

Note: If you want to see a tip about something specific, PM me.

You can get the waterfall object in the "Other" category in the editor.

I'm trying to make a level where I remake the outside of the castle area in Super Mario 64.

You do lots of things when you're bored.

Ok, so you raise a wall using the X-trude thingy. You realize you want a tree ontop of it. You place a tree there and its down in its origional location. Whats wrong? :(

jdl: You must raise the Zscale on the tree. By the way, PM me with questions. Please do not post questions right in the topic, just tips. I will post a tip based off a PM if I get one.

A tip to keep an MAV away while making an adventure:

If using Color changing buttons and teleporters in the same area, NEVER have the colour of the button be the same as the teleporter IF the color switcher will change to a colour that is not selectable for Teleporters.

Example:

There's a red teleporter, a red gate (which needs to be opened), and a red color changer, which changes to the fire gate. All of these have a Subcolor of 0, so they're all the same.

Upon pressing the button, the game will crash because color changers also apply to Teleporters - This will tell both the gate and the teleporter to change their color to the fire texture, but since it doesn't exist for the teleporter, the game will crash.
