a Sugguestion : User Reputations

Post by LexieTheFox » Mon Jul 11, 2011 5:51 am

For example,
A User has done something nice and cool for you.
You go to their profile and you're able to vote them as "kind" Or Nice"
If someones mean to you, you can go to their profile and Vote them as "Mean" or "Rude" or "Sarcastic"
And so on.etc

this might lead to spam votings but we're all mature here, so that wouldn't really happen. is it a good idea?

I don't like the idea as is. I would prefer a more neutral +/- karma meter that some other forums do have. And an essential addition to both your and my versions of this idea is to make sure that you can't vote more than once a day.

(BTW, since when "Sarcastic" was a bad thing? )
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

I love the idea, but only for individual posts, not users in a whole. I don't want people stereotyping users based on what other people have rated them as. If a post was rated that way, that would be fine, since I know I make REALLY stupid posts sometimes, and I also make a few pretty helpful ones, and so knowing the difference can help steer me the right direction instead of a general "you're helpful" or "you should die in a fire".

Win Above, as a matter afact i'd vote your Post there "Wise" Or "Helpful" If your idea was made real. Im going to PM MS about it, does it sound like a good idea?

I doubt the forum software would support it.

With phpBB3 forums(like the NFW ones) there is something a bit like this, you can vote posts "up" or "down" to increacse or decrease someone's reputation.

This is vanilla phpBB2, and Patrick doesn't want me to change any bit of this software, or else I would have switched to another forum software or at least added features (like merging threads)

Wait a second.
You can Edit EVERYTHING ON THIS FORUM?
Patrick made you an administrator or what?

Well, if Patrick let me edit the software it would imply that I will get admin. I would have FTP and database access so... yeah.

I suspected that when you moved topics and edited them in other locations (not In New Off Topic)

I'm pretty sure MS is the one who locked that Loopy topic.

Yes, we only moderate off topic areas. MS handles other areas himself.

Then how did you lock that one topic in GWD?

I locked that one, and as tyteen correctly pointed out, changes to the userboard software are at this point very unlikely.

Even if it would be possible with the forum software, I only think it's a good idea if

- people can not vote anonymously.
- people must give an explanation why they vote, especially when they vote negative.

Anonymous negative votes without explanation don't make any sense, because the person who's post got a negative vote wouldn't know what he/she did wrong, or how he/she could do better next time.

However unlikely this is, it would only really be fair if me and Q also did under these circumstances. There's no boss mod here.

The user who is given the rep should be able to see the reason (which will be mandatory). Mods will also monitor reputation flow, so users cannot abuse the reputation feature. (On some other forums negative rep is turned off to prevent abuse)

@xpr'd: Boss mod: MS (if that counts) :P

But yes, all mods should get admin if Patrick allows to modify the forum software.
