So recently I've stumbled upon this interesting free program, called "Music Studio Producer". It can be downloaded here: http://www.frieve.com/english/musicstd/download.html
(the first link is for the shareware version of "Music Studio Independence", which has a limit of 1 minute time for the music you're making, the SECOND link is for the proper freeware "Music Studio Producer" that doesn't have any limits)
Made some music in it and exported it as a MIDI file. It seems to work OK in my Windows Media Player (although the first note is sometimes played as a piano instead of the harp I'm using -- I think the "insert event to initialize track" function is wonky) but there is one problem.
As soon as I try to load the MIDI file in an external MIDI editor (to fine-tune it), the editor crashes.
Makes me think there's something weird with the export, but I'm not sure how to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it. Can anyone explain this for me?
The .mid file is zipped and attached below.
Can anyone experienced with MIDI sequencing help me out?

So when you open the MIDI file, is there music at all after those 6 empty bars?
What program are you using to open it?

Thanks, I'll try to do the same.tyteen4a03 wrote:Yes.Muzozavr wrote:So when you open the MIDI file, is there music at all after those 6 empty bars?
I used Overture 4 to open the file.
Let's hope that after I figure this out and make the final midi, that final midi will work properly in Doom - I wrote it as a replacement of Doom 1's "victory" song. I want to try and submit this to the FreeDoom project but I have to make sure it actually WORKS properly.

Update here.
I don't have Overture 4 so instead I opened it up in BRELS Midi Editor (which is free) and re-saved the song.
Now I don't get the odd piano note at the beginning, but I still have one problem I'm trying to fix.
I want a certain period of silence at the end of the MIDI. However, when I play it back in Windows Media Player it cuts off on the final note, even before the note itself finishes! This is a wee bit problematic.
Other than that, this new file should work better and (hopefully) should not crash other programs, including Doom.
Version 2 here. tyteen, could you please take a look at this in Overture 4 and see if those "empty bars" are now gone?
