hi there,
This topic is related to that other topic from October.
rekcer's topic about replacing the default IT game music:
http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24273
I want to point out that there is this excellent website
called The MOD Archive
http://modarchive.org/index.php ,
where you can download thousands of mod music files
in various formats including IT, MOD, XM.
I myself have already downloaded about
500 IT files (impulse tracker),
1000 MOD files, &
3600 XM files.
The MOD website has torrent links that allow you to download
entire yearly collections at a time:

In case you don't know what a Torrent is, or either that
you're not allowed to use them on your PC,...
then I'll come back later and find a way to share these
through some other techniques.
Remember, these are all FREE musics.

If you need a free screen video recorder,
try this one: Free Screen Video Recorder

I'm sort of out of time.
I'll also tell you which MOD player is nice.. Will be back, in few hours.

So that you may have a taste of some mod music....
I browsed through about 300 IT music files, and from that list
a few were really phantastic. Try these (5) on your ears:
"Bum"
http://uploadingit.com/file/1mxpbgo8jajgwkxw/bum.it
"Once is not Enough"
http://uploadingit.com/file/bxib1snsurn ... enough.mod
"The Eleventh Pomegranite"
http://uploadingit.com/file/m8lr3jwedp2 ... granate.it
"1234"
http://uploadingit.com/file/ybqpbl1bijbiufxp/1234.it
"Soda7"
http://uploadingit.com/file/1ytqgukp47i ... retaken.it
You can search for many more through the search function:
Mod archive Search:
http://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_searchbox
There are potentially thousands of mod music files to share and "favorite".
The Mod Archive website offers large zipped yearly torrent collections.
But that may create a dilemma, since many of you are disallowed
from using torrent software, (or don't know what it is).
When I have more free time, I'll upload the mod collections to
UploadingIt.COM (or similar), to allow you guys to sample
many at a time, (instead of hunting-and-pecking one at a time.)
Here are some media players that play mod music:
The MODPlug Player
http://www.modplug.com/
KMPlayer
http://www.filehippo.com/download_kmplayer/6192/
WinMod
http://www.quippy.de/mod_en.php

There would be no need for boneheaded (IT) music,
since apparently nice IT files can be found.
Mod archive Search:
http://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_searchbox
Then, hypothetically, some automated process would rename
the ###.it file into a ###.res file, when someone finally creates some CustomRes program.
The main drawback to CustomRes is that the RTW game would have to be restarted at each time to allow CustomRes to take effect.
