Knytt Underground/Knytt Stories Levels Thread

I figured I would try this sort of a topic out and see where it leads (hopefully not just like 10 posts and then bye-bye).

ABOUT

Knytt Stories is a game made by Nifflas, who has made several freeware games in the past. It is the sequel to Knytt, which I recommend trying out first before Knytt Stories, so that you have a feel of the knytt-world environment (and that Knytt has EXCELLENT level design and graphics/visuals, seriously, try it!).
The difference between Knytt and Knytt Stories is that Knytt Stories is basically the WA Editor, you can make your own levels (or, "Stories"). The other differences are that you're playing as a different character (Juni) in KS and that there is no real goal in the game, besides what each different level wants you to do to reach the end.
The level editor is a bit tricky to use, but less overwhelming than the WA Editor. You can download an unofficial editor manual here. With the editor, you can make your own backgrounds (or "Gradients"), tilesets, and music/ambience. The best part about all that is, when you compile your level into 1 file for others to download (like a .wa2 file, only it's .knytt.bin), everything goes into that 1 file, so you don't need to install anything into separate folders (like textures and icons for the WA Editor).

You can download Knytt Stories by clicking here.
[Side Note: You can also download the Knytt Stories DS port on the page I linked to above if you have an R4 to put it on. I've tried it out, and it's amazing playing it on there!]

To find levels to download for Knytt Stories, you can visit the Knytt Level Archive, or visit the Nifflas Forum and check out the levels there!

DOWNLOAD

I've made my own Knytt Stories level that has a tiny little backstory about it once you reach the end. It's called "Escape The Flood".
Click here to go to the Nifflas Forum topic about this level.

I guess to start off this topic, I'll post a picture of my level in progress "Cave Adventure", that uses my own tileset. This picture shows the 5 different rooms that I have done (I apologize that the image is huge).

Knytt Stories {jdl's Escape The Flood}

Post by VirtLands » Tue May 08, 2012 2:23 am

Yes, I think the Knytt Stories has been out a few years.

I've always been very fond of the Niffla's Games, though not an expert
on solving them. (I can't solve hardly anything.)
I was very addicted to FiNCK last year, and shall reinstall it.

I just now installed Knytt Stories, it includes a few worlds.

Have been playing your Escape The Flood for a while now.
It's very interesting..., I really like the endless water sounds.

Thanks!
Cave Adventure will be very different from Escape The Flood, since it's a newer level and my designing has (hopefully) improved from 3 years ago. :D

Also, I'm creating my own "Knytt Experiment" (look at the very bottom of the page) world as well.

Yep! You might be waiting for quite awhile though since I'm wanting the world to be pretty big (and right now I only have 3 rooms done with a 4th in progress).

I still have it, but I need to upload it to mediafire or something.

I actually made a decent-lengthed Knytt Stories level based around the toast-looking spikey enemies. I guess I just have a thing for toast.

Let me know what you guys think! I spent quite awhile on it. :D

Edit: Here's the topic for it on the Nifflas Forum:

You have to go back outside and get the wall climbing powerup after you get the double-jump powerup like in your image. Make sure you look around all the screens for keys and other powerups as well, since I've hidden them all around. :)

Cave Adventures continues

Post by VirtLands » Fri May 11, 2012 12:41 am

{ ooops! the animated-GIF failed to upload properly... }

That first ledge was the hardest to jump onto in Cave Adventures.
Finally got the wall-climbing orb, and got a chance to explore the level.
It's nicely done. I was OFFed a few times by that insect-like purple creature.

Will continue it tomorrow.
:)

It seems your image has been removed, so I can't look at your replay just yet.
I'm glad to see the level is going well so far. :) I purposely made that first ledge the way it is so the player wouldn't be able to continue without the wall climbing powerup so they wouldn't get stuck later on (just like how the entire level is impossible without all but 1 item, which is the detector).

Open Knytt Stories and click "install". From there you can click "Browse" and select the bin file, or you can drag the bin file onto the KS Window. Afterward the level should show up in your list of levels. :)

Nifflas has released his new game "Knytt Underground". It's absolutely beautiful and has an interesting story to it. You get to explore a HUUUGE world, collect items, talk to people, and go on quests.

Here are some videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqfRy9f2XQE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwZ2Z7WRQrI

The game costs $14.99, however there is a demo available where you can play 1 of the 3 chapters.

If you wish to purchase/try out the demo, visit the game's page here: http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Underground
