Yeah, it's one of those ones. Despite that (and one important plot element that made me wonder if I was actually reading Higurashi or Ace Attorney), it still manages to end well for all involved.

The best part is I was actually serious when I said that - I know I finished the book and then "waitaminute -- this IS a Higurashi book right?"

Massive spoilers as to what it was, as it doesn't make sense out of context:
As a bad future to Tsumihiboroshi-hen, all of the club perished at the school in 1983. However, a woman claiming to be Mion shows up in Hinamizawa and meets the protagonist of the arc, Otobe Akira. Additionally, the Sonozaki Family has fallen into turmoil over who their leader is, as Oryou passed away in Hinamizawa's Disaster and Akane Sonozaki (Mion and Shion's mother) was assasinated by the opposing factor.

As it turns out, "Mion" actually is Mion Sonozaki - after her death, her spirit clung to her sister's side incredibly strongly, be it through dreams or otherwise. Mion's spirit instructed Shion to go to Hinamizawa, which she did, though she got in a car accident of sorts on the way there, causing her to pass out - at this point, Mion ended up "possessing" Shion for the majority of the arc. The fact that she is not truly Mion is revealed later, after she is shot by a Sonozaki agent who is against her. Mion "dies" and moves on, absorbing the damage of the bullet, leaving Shion perfectly fine, alive and well.

As for how this confused me: In the Ace Attorney series for the first three games, the protagonist's (Phoenix Wright) sidekick is a psychic named Maya Fey, who is capable of spirit channeling, as are all the women in her family. This later turns into a crucial plot point throughout the first three games.

That... does not sound like a Higurashi arc. I don't doubt it's just as well-written as any other, but that possession thing sounds really weird.

Yeah, after reading the spoiler I can see why it's kinda like a similar event in Ace Attorney.

And you actually believe him? Shows like Angel's Egg, anything by Miyazaki, Rebuild of Evangelion all disprove the "sub-par animation" complaint, while anime like "Shonen Onmyoji", "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni", maybe even "Hikaru no Go" all disprove the "cliche storytelling" complaint. If that guy is serious about what he said, he's sadly misinformed.

Your point being? He only says he regrets doing that because it got anime fans angry.

I am considering a new project with Picture Books which is a computer software that generates stories. I am thinking of gearing it toward kids and possibly be able to port it on tablets and similar gadgets.

Do you guys have any input on this? Do you think that the market for a Japanese counterpart would be huge in that demographic range, or will I just be losing out on competition who have stayed simple.

It's not. It was a bad idea to make this topic on this forum, to be honest, it just... happened, and... really... kids should just forget about this topic. :?
