Hate - not being able to edit posts (and other things)

My do not want list:
1. Not being to edit posts. Would encourage more posts in case of a typo, new point, etc.
2. Switch to a new forum. Why not just use the old one?
3. 2 rules. Just rewrite everything and apply one (and ONLY one) rule to all forums.
4. Only Qloof as a moderator. I know Patrick will be moderating as well, but why only 1 if we have got multiple choices?
Simple rant over.

More about 2 rules: I am OK if the off-topic rules has other rules (e.g no forum games), but the problem is users are actually making spam posts everywhere.
And yes, this is the disadvantage of not being able to edit posts - more and more double posts.

Read the announcement I posted, it's to try and encourage people to re-read their posts (though I agree, it didn't work well).
tyteen4a03 wrote:2. Switch to a new forum. Why not just use the old one?
It's as a new start. Any offenses before the switch are now irrelevant, and only topic that qualify will be moved over. Keep in mind it's also as an experiment.
tyteen4a03 wrote:3. 2 rules. Just rewrite everything and apply one (and ONLY one) rule to all forums.
What would that rule be? Or do you mean a single set of rules?

Because the other two potential moderators (who I won't name right now) haven't replied yet. One of them might have.

I would have to agree. Take the example you have just made (no offense), it is impossible, if you were a normal user, to fix the quote="tyteen4a03 bit (correct syntax is quote="tyteen4a03").
So... please just turn it off.

So from my understanding the old off-topic would return?

Yes - a single set of rules only. 2 sets of rules (unless specified) is actually OK but IMO the current rules in Off-topic could actually apply to the whole forum.
4. Only Qloof as a moderator. I know Patrick will be moderating as well, but why only 1 if we have got multiple choices?

I see.

... and yes I myself have made that mistake as well
More about off-topic switch: I don't think offensives before would be revelant after the switch anyways. The rules never allowed spam to exist (but only briefly) and spam made these days can of course be cleaned.
But yeah, I won't bother going to posts made in 2006 and delete spams inside. It's just a waste of time.

I can't enable editing myself, sorry.
As for the off-topic area - Only select topics (Wefight) will be coming back depending on the outcome of this. I don't know if the off-topic area itself will be unlocked and this one deleted.

1. I think not many people will DP, if they make a typo, except if it will be a very strange typo, which can mean something different.
Tyteen, I think if you really have something to say what you forgot to say in the previous post, like you did, it's not a problem for making a DP in my opinion. People who don't like making DP's themselves will probably (after it happened a few times) try to wait a while, read their own post carefully before pressing the submit button. Then there is less chance they forget something, and this subforum will be less a chaos.
Qloof, you can't switch off the ability to edit posts since you are a moderator, but you can try not to use it. Other people might not like it if they read: "Last edited by Qloof ...." while they can't edit their posts theirselves.
2. I think it's sort of a new beginning. Let's not look back; let's look forward! If there is a discussion in the old section you wish to continue, why not simply make a similar topic in the new section? You still can read the old section, and copy / paste text, in case you want to quote someone's words.
Besides, after a while, let's say a week or two, the old section will be really old, and no one will bother about it anymore.
3. The new "rules" for the off-topic's are actually more a description of the subsection, (rule 1, 3 and 4) so they don't fit in the rest of the forum. As for rule 2, I agree that should count for the entire forum, but usually in the other sections it doesn't happen often that there are 2 topics about the same subject. Patrick will take care of the "General" subforum, and I believe he doesn't want there more then one topic about the same thing either.
4. I did my best for you to make you moderator as well Tyteen, but apparently I did not succeed.

If Qloof234 goes on holiday, what will happen? I just presumed that Patrick hasn't finished adding moderators, and was going to add others.
I don't understand this because the posts will be better if you can edit them. If MS is doing this so he and Qloof234 can see the Spam the Spammers post then is it a possibility people that don't Spam can be enabled to edit their posts?

According to MS, editing posts is disabled to try and make people think before posting. IMO it's not the right way to approach the issue, but that's how it is right now.
As for moderators, I can't specify who, but there are two other moderators who have been contacted.

It's sometimes like you posted a message, you remember a new point, then before you could add it in someone else might have posted something else.
Also, although post count is now less revelant, it could bring possible "manual typo" cases, and they could have done a lot of DPs to increase their post count.

I somehow just want to stick to one forum. There isn't really a point in moving to a new forum - unless the old off-topic will be archived.

The title is probably misleading then
But still, yes rule 2 should go forum-wide.
4. I did my best for you to make you moderator as well Tyteen, but apparently I did not succeed.

But I have already known that people I think would be suitable as a mod would be a mod. (weird grammer alert)
And they are all 3.studIo staff.

BB:
If Qloof234 goes on holiday, what will happen?
In case something happens on this forum, what people think it's wrong, then anyone on this forum has the ability to give and explain their opinion about it, why they think it's wrong. The only difference is, that the topic has to wait being locked until Qloof is back from holiday.
.. because the posts will be better if you can edit them.
That's just your opinion. Apparently Patrick and I have a different opinion: Posts will be better, if people think longer / better about them before posting.
Also, if people are able to edit their posts, they will be also able to say something, then edit it, and then deny that they ever have said that. (destroying evidence)
.. is it a possibility people that don't Spam can be enabled to edit their posts?
I think not. The edit-function can be switched on or off, but only for everyone the same if I'm right.
Tyteen:

I think that's no problem at all, because then you don't even have to DP.
Also, although post count is now less revelant, it could bring possible "manual typo" cases, and they could have done a lot of DPs to increase their post count.
If people are doing that on purpose, we all can say something about it, and Qloof can lock or delete them.
unless the old off-topic will be archived.
I think right now, the old section
is sort of an archive.

In the above post from Q, he said there would be 3 mods, not just 1. I would say the chance for all 4 people to not be able to go on is pretty small.

In other forum systems there is a thing called "Post history". It can be set to be viewable by everyone or just Mods+ and yourself.
I will see if it can be implemented here, and send the suggestion to MS.

Let's be fair to everybody.
Also, there is a handy button called "Preview" if any of you didn't know. It is besides the "Submit" button

Tyteen, I agree with 1 and 3 in your previous post.
About 2: What means "post history"? Does that mean that other people are able to see what someone wrote before it was edited? In that case, I agree too. (at least if it's visible to everyone.)

Yes, post history records every post edits you have done and show the difference in colour. It usually is located in a link in the Edited by... message.

OK, I think that will be a good idea.
However, to make that possible, I think either Patrick should modify the forum software, or switch over to version 3. And it seems to me he is not going to do that.
Also, version 3 seems more complicated to me. (please don't talk too much in details because I probably will not understand

) So it is possible people will mess up with all those things, for example, perhaps little kids will press the "report" button at each post they don't like or don't understand.

I hate phpBB version 3 to be honest. The Admin Control Panel seemed so obfuscated.
I would go for vBulletin 3 but if MS doesn't want to buy anything, MyBB is also a great choice.
