Moving Topics Requests

Posted: Mon Jan 03, 2011 3:06 am
by Midnight Synergy
As some have pointed out, it's been a while since the new Off-Topic is around, so here's the request:

What topics from the Old Off-Topic should be moved to the New Off-Topic?

There are some provisos:

1) Be very (!!!) selective, I only plan to move a handful of topics. I.e. only topics that really need to be moved and for which an ongoing need for discussion exists.

2) Only topics with posts from current active participants of the New Off-Topic section (given that some old users might not be happy with having their old IPs/E-mails etc visible to mods). If there is just a couple of posts from other users, these can be deleted before moving.

3) Please provide a link to the forum topic in your list (rather than just a name or a description) to help me find them.

Let me know your choices. And - again - please keep it brief.

EDIT BY TYTEEN: PLEASE READ #4 ABOUT USER PRIVACY ISSUES!

Just a few things to think about:

- Isn't this http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21784 the new Wefight topic? Would that be locked then? And how does Nobody think about that, the one who started both topics, and already wrote a few long stories in the new topic?

-
.. for which an ongoing need for discussion exists.
Does such thing exist for either the old topic or the new one?

-
If there is just a couple of posts from other users, these can be deleted before moving.
Someone is getting a hard job to check who all posted in the old topic. (14 339 posts)

Notice to everyone: phpBB2 does NOT come with a "Merge topic" option, so unless MS lets me do it manually in the database (which I highly doubt), there is no way to do it in this forum currently. I will ask MS to install a mod to enable this feature shortly.

Also, about user privacy: Moderators currently can see your email/IP(s). This is ONLY used for moderation purposes (e.g: Check if any other accounts has the same IP/email as this user when user is banned, and suggest an IP ban when necessary). I STRICTLY FORBID myself to spoil any user information to ANYONE UNAUTHORIZED TO SUCH INFORMATION. This includes, but not limited to, friends, other users, etc. I also ASK EVERY OTHER MODERATOR TO NOT DO SO. I have already told off a mod (Won't tell name here) for trying to spoil these information to friends. (although I don't actually have the permission - we are the same rank)

Now it's the key to trust. Do you trust us that your information will be in good hands?

It is in my mustmoveormegarage (no not really) list anyways.

And does your garage-list also contain links to the topics? Because some people seem to have a problem with reading.

(made the text a bit bigger, hoping that everyone can read it now.)

I think only not-so-well-known topics (i.e: Those without a lot of post in it, compared to wefight, Toontown, and Wonderland Screenshots) actually do require one. But still, giving a link gives MS a clue where it is to speed up transition.

XPR, there have a lot of people posted in that topic, who don't post anymore in the off-topics, or perhaps on the entire forum. (Maybe also Popo/Pauline (not sure) who didn't want other people to know her IP/email address.) I think it will be hard to ask them all permission to show their addresses to the mods.

And there's also a new music topic now.

same thing to ~xpr'd~.
Topics that I would like moved:
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21542
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21044
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21482
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21204
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15746
Can't find any others because I'm afraid to go past page 3 due to the topic's age.
It would have helped if everyone hadn't posted so much spam.
Perhaps you forgot under what circumstances that new one started, and why Qloof had to edit some things. That new one has somewhat a "bad taste".
Are you kidding? Asking Patrick to move a topic containing only one post. (Coincidence that it was your post?)

About the other topics you mentioned: Please tell us about the ongoing need for discussion.

Deeman, for the 1-post topic, you could just copy and paste your post there into a new topic here.Takes like, a, a minute and saves MS some time.

Sorry, I made a little mistake in my previous post with a link in a quote, which didn't work. It has to be the first one: http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21542

About some of the other topics (#2 and #5) I would like to say this. A while ago I pointed out that there were already 7 topics about Mario, and in the meantime there are made a few more if I'm right. There's also a new Toon Town topic.
Deeman wrote: if everyone hadn't posted so much spam.
Please don't post so much about other people's spam, without pointing out what posts you mean and why you think it's spam. If you had never spammed yourself, perhaps it would have been a little different, but still pretty negative in my opinion. Remember that we still can search for all your posts, what's wrong with it, (perhaps BB will help me  ) and then we can post it in another subforum, where Tyteen can not delete it. 8)

http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21574
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21527
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21531 (OK maybe this isn't spam but still)
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20649 (OK maybe this isn't spam but still)
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21500 (forum game)
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21485 (uh, post in orginal topic derp)
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21441
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21443
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21426 (both piracy and wrong section)
http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21403 (OK, this saved my account due to MS's response, and my sanity due to having to contact tyteen to get anything posted but still)

And btw, IF you join PeTA, Quit right now. I plan to destroy PeTA (and go beond the law of all countries to do so if I have to). PeTA MUST DIE!

Yes, I have to agree with you that most of them are spam. (Although I liked the alligator topic. :) ) And I realize that I rather should have said it a different way instead of:
Please don't post so much about other people's spam, without pointing out what posts you mean and why you think it's spam.
Because it was actually not my intention that you would post a list with all topics which are spam. So, sorry that I said it a bit unclear. Let me say it this way: Please don't talk so much about (bad) things which happened in the past. We all know there were some spammers back then but first; we must not forget that they were most very young children, and second; talking about those things doesn't give us a better future.

Therefore I use to say: Don't look back; look forward! Complaining about bad things in the past usually doesn't make us feel better.

But well, actually it was not my intention to go so off-topic. Sorry.

So, what I wanted to say: apparently Patrick only wants a very few topics to be moved, and there must be a pretty good reason for. Well since there were only a few people who suggested one topic, and suddenly you came with a list of 5 topics, that seemed a bit much to me. :)

We are trying to make merging topics possible. Just be patient.

Also all threads that are listed here by users are being evaluated by me, then I will whip up a draft tomove list. Mods will continue editing the tomove list until it's perfect, then we will hand it in to MS.

Read the topic title. It's temporary. The posts there will move into the old one at the right time in the plot.

No, It's just better to make the old one a locked Sticky and when the right time comes add them.
