Going to try something new?

I've done pretty much everything I can think of with platforming games - they're getting boring to design...
Recently, I've been considering making a video game of a *GREAT* book series (I've found something better than the Maze Runner), and obviously platforming isn't going to work. I've thought of making a Mario & Luigi style game with the battle system and all, but that will be really difficult, having to take the 2.5D viewpoint into consideration, all of the things that must be kept track of in battle, etc.. I'm finding myself subconsciously planning stuff, but I'm not sure if I want to waste the effort on a challenge I might fail.
Should I try this, or no?

Why not make Lost Data an RPG?
We were all dissappionted when you told us about the SEKRIT THINGY you were making and then dumped it all. I was looking foward to playing it...

First, make Lost Data. Then, do this. You can't reveal a buncha stuff about your SEKRIT THING and set everyones expectations high then throw it away like an apple core.

Possibly not. Unless the character and their design is copyrighted.

How unfortunate.

I'll credit the original author.

I'm not finished reading the series yet and I'm still not sure if I want to carry this game out in an entirety, but it would be a nice challenge. The book is Incarceron (which happens to have a perfect setting for a video game). Don't try to shoot me down if I miss something, though.

Frankly, if you build up a lot of excitement for a game and then dump it (twice, once with Lost Data and once with ET4), then people are going to expect the trend to continue with future games. Shoot me if you want to, but I have my suspicions that you'll eventually quit on this one too.
This I second.

It's because Lost Data was a platformer just like Evil Toaster. I need a change.

Then make it as something other than a platformer.

Look, if the guy dosen't wan't to do something, he dosen't have to.
I have a suggestion, what if you made ET4/LD like We Brawl Adventure? WB was originaly a platformer, so you know "converting" like that works, and you won't have to get bored on making a platformer.
Or you could let me make it for you? *shot*
I'm at least gonna try asking. :p

If ET4 isn't a platforming game, than it wouldn't be Evil Toaster, would it?

Yeah! ET4 could be like ET1 but enemies walk toward you and attack you, and if you don't destroy a high eneugh % of them before the level finishes, or if you get hit too much(that's pretty common) you lose?

That wouldn't feel Evil Toaster-ish at all. Not after all of the platforming that's been implemented in the series.
I sometimes wish I called Evil Toaster 1 "Evil Toaster Prelude" or something.

Now, back on topic...
Until this game gets far enough, I'm going to post a few pictures here because I could use your opinions...
Does this look 3D-ish? (The orange background is temporary)

It took me about 10 seconds to see it, which is bad, but after that it looked fine, which is good. I'm fine with it.

I'll need to keep improving it then. Hmm.

I don't see the 3D at all in it, to be honest.

The light gray's supposed to be the ground and the darker gray is supposed the be the walls.
I know I shouldn't have to be explaining this... please excuse my bad art skills. >.>

WHAT IS MY LITTLE PONY SO POPULAR RECENTLY?!
Meanwhile, in Game Maker, I'm cursing my bad spriting skills.

Believe me, I'm not sure what it is about it that makes me like it, but it's actually a good show. It plays out like a 90's cartoon, and it isn't overly sweet either.
Honest.

I spend unnessary ammounts of time spriting, so mabye I'll know eneugh to help.

Probaly not...but I'll try.
Mabye if you removed part of that long line, just where there is the same color on the top and the bottom. Right now they look like diffrent things even though they are the same wall.

My Little Pony avatars are all over the Minecraft forums too.
Anyways, I'm guessing that giving the ground and walls textures might work. I'm looking hard and trying to figure out what makes some RPGs look 2.5D...
