95% percent of the time it's not that bad. What makes it seem so awful is the anticipation. By the time the shot is done, you've worked yourself into a tense state, making it seem more painful. Sometimes people get physically tense, making it actually more painful.

The trick is to distract yourself with something. If you've got an mp3 player, listen to something that fills your mind completely. Power metal usually works well. If you don't have one, think about whatever else you want.

There's the 5% percent of the time it's done by a not-so-good nurse. Then it sucks.
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

Most of the time you listen to an MP3 player would be the time waiting. I doubt the nurses would let you listen to it when injecting.

Also, the time waiting is the most anxious moment for most people I believe.

At one point I had to get the same shot like 3 times in a row because the doc keept shaking my arm to get in in there and it ended up going through the side of the vein or something. :x

It gets sort of enjoyable after a while. It's the human method of dealing with pain – with every bit of pain comes a bit of pleasure. That's why people often get addicted to scratching.

As long as it doesn't promote hurting people or yourself, yes.

I'm referring to a different effect – an instinctive one that applies to all humans, whether you feel it or not.

I can definitely say that I don't experience this effect every time, but sometimes I do.

DP. I did some further research, and it seems that you're not referring to the true meaning of the word "emo", but the stereotypical one. Just to clear things up I would like to emphasize that I'm only talking about the stereotypical meaning, and that I am perfectly aware of the fact that it is not all true. I apologize for any misunderstandings I have caused.

Before this goes any further, let's get back to the topic:
