I showed the pictures to my local photographer and after a good laugh popo's camel picture he explained the orbs to me this way:
It's dust or pollen in the air. It's dark so you probably can't see it with your eye. but the flash on the camera lights it up so it is visable. It's blurry and unlike what you'd imagine dust to be because it's so close to the lens that the camera can't focus on it. They are brighter closer to the flash and dimmer and smaller as you get farther away from the camera. The are superimposed on the subject because they are between the camera and the subject. Dustier places have more of them in the picture.
He ends with a question: Since when do phantasmagoric bits of protoplasm allow themselves to be captured with a flash camera? Isn't that what all the high end ghost hinting equipment is for?
No, neither he nor I are ghost experts and aren't saying there's no such thing. Just that these pictures are more likely dust in the air than evidence of ghosts.
