PM Spam

Post by Midnight Synergy » Thu Nov 08, 2007 4:25 am

You might have received some PM spam from a "user" shohobanvarsd - user has been removed already, so no need to e-mail me. Hopefully this is not the start of a new spam strategy trend.

I PM'd you my spam PM before I read this, I'll delete it now.

I would like to know though how a spambot can send PM's. Maybe it's time for a rethink on the joining process, or can you disable PM's for new members until they have made ten posts, the same as for links?

It's a scary thought that they can send out potentially dangerous or pornagraphic material to anyone on here, even children.

It is scary. Originally, you might remember, PMs were simply disabled in the forum. I don't think we'll need to go there again (I cannot, unfortunately, put a post limit on PMs or monitor them in any other way), but this is certainly a situation to keep a close eye on.
