No.
I'd like to see that kind of feature, but we don't have it here.

I think the administrator has the possibility to:
- change someone's username, and/or
- let users change their own username.
So if your not happy with your username, you always can ask Patrick. However, if users have the possibility to change their own usernames, and you would be on Monday ^_^, on Tuesday >###<, on Wednesday 1000%, and on Thursday Sinterklaas, it would be pretty messy, isn't it?

The admin can use the administration panel to let users change their usernames. phpBB2 does support that option, MS just hasn't enabled it.
On my forum, for example, everyone is free to change his or her username.

I think it'd be nice, for one, because I'm tired of being xpr'd now that everyone knows I'm TD but I can't get into my TD account :V
Maybe it would be available every six months or something. That would work well.

MS isn't that free to do them everyday

I told you before somewhere an admin on another forum changed his name from aaaaajon to aaaaajom in order to evade a really random rule on a forum game.
It was on a PBsandwich2 forum or whatever.

No, actually I meant, if users can change their own username, there would be maybe someone who changed it everyday. MS has to change the setting only once.

Name change has to be done manually by an administrator on vB/phpBB.
Currently at 3.studIo forums we allow a name change per 6 monthes.

No, not "has to be done", but "can be done"
The other possibility is as Blast and I said, that the admin switch on the option: Allow users to change their username.

I see what you mean. (Yes, I haven't used phpBB2 for years
)
On IPB you could limit the users to change their display name (is separated from login name) x times per a certain time. Maybe phpBB2 could do the same?

display name (is separated from login name)
On our family-forum there are only usernames, just like this forum, so the displayed name is the login name.
Edit: And the admin can only switch the option ON or OFF. Not once in 6 months or so.

It's PHP, so we can of course modify the code to limit it.

You mean: It's sort of programming-language, so you can change the software?
Actually I don't know anything about it. Years ago I tried some programming with Basic, Pascal and C++, but I forgot most of it, and although I know how to change things in the admin-panel, I have no idea how to change the software.

phpBB2 is written in PHP (duh) so modifying the software should be easy (not counting the differculty)

I believe that. Riding on a bike is also easy, but not for those who never tried, or maybe never have seen a bike.
