DiscGolfer's Basket

Post by DiscGolfer » Fri May 27, 2005 7:50 pm

When the school year ends it is a time of joy for most teachers. For me, it means a summer without internet access. :(
My visits won't be as frequent, and I'll be relying on the free access at a local coffeeshop to keep in touch. Uploading and downloading levels might prove to be troublesome, but I'll try.
If anyone has any DiscGolfer related questions, needs help with any of my levels, or just wants to yell at me for not commenting on their levels ( ), this will be the place.
I'm not saying "Goodbye", just "See you later".
:D  :D

Definitely get on the net at home DG. What will we do without your great visuals and mind bending brain teasers?

So you're on your summer hols already? Schools in England have to go on till late July and have only 6 weeks off. :(

You'll be missed DG. Maybe you can teach summer school? :D Just kidding.
Summer vacation here varies from state to state and even county to county. Here the kids go through mid June and start in the first week in September. My nieces and nephews in GA go to the end of May and start in mid August. Some of the schools go year round.

The first communication we had I wrote that I called Denver home and Ozark, MO a place to live. Well after a weeks visit in Denver I think I'll call the Ozarks home, you can take all that "big city" noise, traffic, and RUDE RUDE RUDE people and stick it where the sun don't shine. I'll miss talking to a fellow "hillbilly"   But have a GREAT summer enjoy time with your child and enjoy the great Ozark mountains.

Just another hillbilly

I wanted to share a story with all of you about something that happened two weekends ago.
My son and I were in Alma, Arkansas for a weekend Disc Golf tournament.
Alma is the home of Colleen Nick, the mother of Morgan Nick- a six year old girl who was abducted from an Alma softball field ten years ago.
Morgan Nick has been on my mind for years because I fear the same thing could happen to my soon-to-be 8 year old son. Morgan was really on my mind as we were in Alma the weekend of the tournament, and the weekend before as I practiced the course. This will sound weird but it was like I could almost feel her spirit. They have never found out what happened to Morgan Nick. Her mother Colleen Nick has gone on to found the Morgan Nick Foundation to help the families of missing children.
On Sunday June 5th, as my son and I were eating our McDonalds breakfast in the Alma Wal-Mart parking lot, I noticed the woman in the car next to us was wearing a Morgan Nick tee-tshirt. As the woman loaded her groceries I noticed that she was Morgan's mother, Colleen Nick.
I had always wanted to meet Colleen Nick to tell her how I felt about her, how I had been thinking a lot about Morgan, especially lately. I began to cry as I told her of how I became a single parent and widower due to the senseless acts of another. She expressed her empathy for me, and I for her, as we hugged in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
I returned to my car and watched as Colleen fed a stray dog a recently purchased Pop-Tart. I decided that any money I won in the tournament I would donate to the Morgan Nick Foundation. I won my division, and when the Mayor of Alma announced my prize of $55.00 (small tournament )
I told my story of Morgan Nick, my son, meeting Colleen Nick, etc... , and asked the Mayor if he would see that the Morgan Nick Foudation got my cash prize of $55.00.
Well that would be a pretty good story, but it gets better!
Four days later, Colleen Nick was chosen by ABC Television to be the recipient of an Extreme Home Makeover. To the tune of $400,000!!!
Watch for the show on July 10 at 7pm CTS. They have already finished the home!!!

Wonderful story and very touching, DG. Things like that restore some of my faith in the decency of most of humanity.
