Florida members, please check in!
Has anyone heard from Gen? Katrina hit southern Florida last night/early this morning and I'm not sure where Gen's located. If there are any other members in Florida, please let us know how you are as well. She's heading out into the Gulf of Mexico and projected to strenghthen and curve more northerly. Any of our members in the path, please be careful.

Thanks for the concern, but I'm fine. I'm in the Tampa Bay area on the west coast and have only had some wind and rain from Katrina, nothing worse than the usual thunderstorms. It was the east coast in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area that received the brunt of the storm yesterday.
Now that she has moved into the Gulf. We are just waiting to see where she is going. It looks like now that she will bypass us and head for the panhandle. Goodness knows that the Pensacola/Mobile area do not need any more storms after surviving Ivan last year and Dennis this year. I think we have posters in that area. I hope they check in with us!

Katrina is in the Gulf of Mexico and the way it looks and what the news people said it should arrive in Ga and Ala Monday and Monday night. The news said it could take a different route.
Keeping my eyes and ears opened.
Gen I am so glad you are ok, Thanks for letting us know! Dylan lives in Gulf Shore Ala.

Thank you for letting us know you're alright, Gen. I hope any other members in the path will be okay, too. I was up late last night watching the reports. 4 dead and over a million without power. 3" of rain an hour. Not a very nice one.
I hope Kaboom is okay, too. No one's heard from him for a while.
I'll be busy saying prayers for a while, I think.

That's exactly right- Just like Dennis we thought it was coming this way and ended up in Navarre Beach instead- So far we are okay here in Gulf Shores but I won't be leaving as early this time- In fact if I do have to evacuate, I'll be watching Katrinia in my rear view mirror- Evacuations are costly and I'm still struggling from Dennis! Everyone take care and check in after the factThe news said it could take a different route.

ps- can you send me a link or something to the Alabama level, I don't even know where to find them!

I hope that all you will keep Dylan in your thoughts and prayers. She lives in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Hurricane Katrina will not hit there directly, but it is on the east side of the storm and will receive very heavy storms, possible tornadoes and definitely storm surge of at least 10-15 feet. This storm is a monster and I hope that she has evacuated the area safely.
The red star on the map is where Gulf Shores is located. You can see how close it is to New Orleans where the eye of Katrina is suppose to hit tomorrow.

Thanks Gen,
Hopefully she's long gone by now and won't get a chance to read this thread until it's all over, and that she'll be safe and have a home to return to, without any harm coming to her family and friends.
These natural disasters are so awful. I sincerely hope we have no Wonderland members in the New Orleans area. My heart goes out to all the people in the path of this storm, both on the Gulf coast, and up through the country. It's going to be a very bad time.
Texas will miss it this time, but we know how lucky we are.
God bless all those who will not be so fortunate.

I hope you are right that Dylan has left and is now safely away from the coast.
Ann, this is so scary! The storm is so big and so powerful. Not only did Texas lucked out this time and so did most of Florida, but I wouldn't wish this on anyone. They are saying the New Orleans could be totally wiped out and that anyone still in the city could be left without power, water, etc for at least a month.

I know, and we were hearing that once all that water gets inside the levees, the city being over 10 ft below sea level, it would take months to pump it all out.
We missed Alecia(Houston 1983) because we had moved to west Texas, and we missed Claudette down here 3 years ago, and then Emily missed us this year. We've been very lucky.
Our house is up for sale. I will not spend another summer on the Gulf coast. We landed up here accidentally, and we've been here long enough.
Someplace else, here I come.

Ann, Where will you move? Most every place I can think of has some disadvantages. Earthquakes, tornadoes, snow storms, ice storms, etc. When I lived in North Carolina, Hugo hit Charleston, South Carolina and still had enough power that it did considerable damage in the Greenesboro/Winston-Salem/High Point area. Last year here, we were in the edges of Charley, France and Jeanne and were fortunate to have only minor damage.
That - dear Gen, is the big question.
When I retired we packed everything away and set out in an RV to travel, and contemplate making that big decision. We started out down here near Corpus Christi, and due to medical problems - my husband had a severly infected knee joint replacement that was done in Houston, we stayed here and he had two more surgeries and is now in perfect health again. The wanderlust bug is biting at us, so we need to start again and see if we can find that "perfect" place.
I'm from England - lush green hills, beautiful trees and scenery and cool weather, even in the summer - and he's from the West Texas desert - sand, heat, no trees, no water and flat as far as you can see, so we probably won't ever agree. We don't want hot humid summers, or cold snowy winters and we certainly don't want any severe weather, of any kind.
The only place I can think of is Wonderland
Think we can persuade Patrick to design an RV park some where for us - please, please ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I hope everyone stays safe, please pop in to let us know you are all okay.
Kaboom is alright folks, he doesn't live anywhere near where the fires are.
He's a 15 year old boy and like all teenagers, he loses interest in things for a while. I expect he'll come back to Wonderland sometime.
Ann, you are a gypsy!
The one thing I've learned is, you can only go forward never back. I could never go back to live in Scotland, no matter how much I love the country. You would probably be the same Annie, I don't know the different states but the others could advise you on that one.

Thanks to Kymmie.

Very true, MADWD.
Glad to see you posting again.
And thank you for letting us know Kaboom is okay.
I do hope Dylan has left the area. This storm was nasty when it hit southern Florida and it's 3 times the size it was then and very, very much stronger. They are talking about it still being hurricane strength or near that when it gets to Nashville. This is one of the strongest storms to ever hit the U.S.
I just heard a few minutes ago that there may be some problems with the levees. I hope not. I hope it weakens quicker than they expect. All you Wonderlanders in it's path take especial care of yourselves, your families, friends, neighbors and localities. And check in as soon as you can. We all worry about you.

I just really don't know what to say when these type of events occur. There isn't a damn thing we can do to stop or prevent them. We just have to pick up the pieces after all the destruction & get on with our lives the best we can.
I do hope everyones is safe, as you are all in my prayers. Please keep in touch & let us know you & your familys are ok.
