Avatar or Signature Images
Alright, since the discussion on this topic seems to have reached the point where the bar brawls are about to break out, maybe everyone can have a collective glass of warm milk, calm down again, and vote for your preference.
Take your time, play around with signatures and avatars, decide which you would prefer, and vote. You have 6 days to vote (i'm trying out the time-limited poll function - hope it works), then I will peek at the results and modify the forum rules accordingly.
Now make up, make peace, and play nice. That's an order.
(EDIT: Added third option)

animated sigs
patrick...one question? if the avatars win out, which i dont think is fair considering most of the people who even post on the levels were in favor of the sigs staying, does that mean an avatar just sits there doing nothing??? or can they be animated?

They can be animated- Take your car, make it smaller (or something else with the right diminsions) and put it into an avatar.
See what you think!
Take a look at mine!
(Well I changed the picture now- hope you got to see it, but trust me, it can

I think most of the signatures are really beautiful, and I enjoy the colour added to the forum,
but I don't really mind where it is - side, middle or bottom - so I voted accordingly.
Patrick - set the guide lines for the size of signatures and/or avatars, and then all our wonderfully
creative members can go to work again, providing us with beautiful pictures to enjoy.
I hate to see all the dissension on the board at present,
and hope the decision can be made and that everyone will abide by it, and therefore be happy again.
This is a "game place" - let's play and have fun
My personal request - Patrick, I need purple smiley faces ! ! ! ! ! Yellow's OK, but purple's better.

Avatars or Signatures
I really have enjoyed seeing the different signatures that everyone has contributed to the forum. If this problem is a result of size then can't you set a limit that all can be happy with. My old betsy is run on a modem and I don't have a problem loading most of the signatures, yes some of the bigger ones are a tad slower but they still load.
Wonderland has meant the world to me and I really don't want to see anything happen to the game or the group that has made this such a wonderful place to be.

Definetly Overtures
Hey, what's the fun of posting here, without
some colorful animations to go along?
I definetly Vote for "making overtures to signatures"

Wow... what a disgrace.
Somebody decided to cheat on the poll. Created a bunch of fake user accounts today, just in order to vote. I've tried deleting some of the accounts to see if it would erase the votes, but unfortunately it didn't.
Words cannot describe my disappointment. It's not like this is a life or death situation that would warrant cheating, anyhow. Since votes (before today) were so close, I was likely going to allow everyone to make their own choice anyhow.
Now, to whoever did this: IP addresses are logged, so I can do some digging through the system to find out who you are. However, I strongly invite the person behind this to e-mail me with a confession. You will both save me some time, and if you do the right thing now, you might just save yourself from being banned and black-listed permanently.
It's up to you.
To the rest of the folks, sorry. I'll lock this thread, and would ask everyone not to comment publicly on this for now.

Alright folks, the person has come forward, sort of. (Note to that individual: an offence is not always your best defence). I'm still way too steamed to deal with "you" right now.
I've now set the forum rules vis-a-vis images. These are not negotiable.
(this is pretty much what I had in mind when I saw how close the poll was running - so don't worry, this is not a rash/reactionary decision)
Rule #5 used to read:
I've also expanded on Rule #2. Bottom line: I do want you guys to have fun on this board, obviously. But it is also a place of business (hence my cautious decisions on any posts that might be offensive), and a resource for players (hence my request to stay on topic).
All that being said, the "Meet & Greet" and "Off Topic" sections are specifically for you folks to get all those other bottled-up posts out of your system (within reason, of course). Since signatures/avatar images appear in all posts (regardless of topic) I have made the above restrictions to achieve what I think is a happy and fair medium.
EDIT: just to be clear - feel free to be as image happy on the Off-Topic section as you want. But please do your part in keeping the posts in the rest of the forum on the more spartan side. If you can get away with using smaller images than the above stated maxima in your signatures, that would be appreciated (since they appear in every post).
Peace.

Rule #5 used to read:
It now has been expanded to read(5) Other Files/Images
You are certainly welcome to use images in your posts and signatures. However, we ask that you do not over-use these. Remember that (i) they add to the size of the overall discussion board, and will slow it down over time and (ii) they are slow to download for users without high-speed internet connections.
These should be flexible enough for each person to pick their favourite combination, without overloading the board. Please stick too them, and send users a friendly link to the forum rules if they might have missed it and are using both images.(5) Other Files/Images
You are welcome to use an image in posts and in your signature or avatar. However, we ask that you do not over-use images. Remember that (i) they add to the size of the overall discussion board, and will slow it down over time, (ii) they are slow to download for users without high-speed internet connections, and (iii) they can affect the readability of threads if too many images are present.
The following rules are in effect:
a. Signature or Avatar Images
Please use either a signature image or an avatar image, not both. If you use
(i) an Avatar Image: this image/animation can be 120x120 pixels large. You may still use a single line of text, but no images or multi-line text for your signature.
(ii) a Signature Image: Please ensure that your signature image/animation are up to 120 pixels long (i.e. vertical). You are also limited to a single line of text before or after the image, but no avatar image or multi-line signature text.
(iii) no Image: if you use neither avatar nor signature image, your signature may be up to three lines of text long.
b. Images in Posts
Do not use more than one image in your post, and keep them on the smaller side for improved readability. The exception for this rule is the "Off-Topic" area of the forum. Here you may post several images and larger images in each post.
I've also expanded on Rule #2. Bottom line: I do want you guys to have fun on this board, obviously. But it is also a place of business (hence my cautious decisions on any posts that might be offensive), and a resource for players (hence my request to stay on topic).
