Trick or Treat

AJ the robot. You don't see many self made costumes any more. It's amazing what an empty bank account will do for the imagination.

That's cute Loirae and so is AJ! You are talented to have made that for him. One little boy who came by my house tonight was all wrapped up in strips of white cloth (sheet?) to look like a mummy.

We had a number of teens come by un-costumed. My hubby's policy was, no costume-no candy. Most would just shrug and walk away. but here are two creative kids' stories:

We had one kid come by obviously un-costumed. My hubby said, "What are you supposed to be?"

He answered, "Ummmmmmm. I'm a.... Jacket!"

"Nope, you're a moocher. No candy to kids who don't wear costumes."

"Well, how about if i do a trick?"

And then he burped the whole alphabet and did the moon-walk.

He got candy.
------
Another un-costumed girl found out she couldn't get our candy. So, she told us she was a teacher.

Says hubby, "Prove it. Say the Pledge of Allegiance. All teachers know it."

She messed up most of it.

She got no candy, but was laughing as she walked away - as were her costumed friends.

You seem to have very well behaved kids over there on Halloween night. Over here they want money not candy, and if you don't give them any they play a trick on you......

One year I was in the bath when they came round. They must have thought I was ignoring them and smashed a whole box of eggs over our car. It was almost impossible to get off once it had set.

I don't think they've quite got the spirit of the thing, do you? :(

No-one came round last night, btw.

Yeah, popo, it's sad to see stuff like that. When I was a kid, the "in" thing was to steal pumpkins and smash them. One year my mom caught my teenaged cousin trying to lift ours. She made a deal with him: Wait until after the end of the official trick or treat, then come "steal" the pumpkin, but leave the candle on the porch. And when you smash, it, don't do it in front of our house, take it elsewhere. It gave him the fun of doing it, and saved us the hassle of a rotting pumpkin to dispose of. He did that for about 5 years before he outgrew pumpkin smashing.

After I wrote that yesterday morning, I found someone had thrown an egg at my front door! What is wrong with these kids?

Where did your cousin go to smash the pumpkins, btw? Not outside someone else's house I hope.

Oh, you poor thing! Sorry to hear about the eggs.

My cousin... I never found out where he took them. No where on our street though. Some other poor unfortunate souls probably had a mess in front of their houses. :(
