Never mind! I am on dialup and never complained, so why should I turn off my animations. It is only when the signature cycles that it slows down my connections. It's not the size and turning off my animations isn't fair to the ones who have dialup. If pictures are put in the forum of the kids or Wonderland Convention.I couldn't see them, and it is not as easy as Ramonda said it is. If I had the choice to have high speed connection I would, but we don't! My 2 cents worth. As only one person on dial-up came forward and actually posted on this thread (and they didn't seem to have a problem with it Shocked ), perhaps they should switch off the animation option as Ramonda pointed out.

PLEASE DON'T LEAVE THE FORUM!

We'd all miss you too much - your great levels, your sense of fun and your huge contribution to brightening the place up.
I've been pretty ill with flu, so haven't joined in the above discussion, except for my idiotic over-reaction in removing my animated sig right away.

Having looked at this thread with all the avatars and the sigs I have decided that I prefer the sigs to be honest. As you can take the option whether or not to have the animations turned on or off I can't see the harm and I have to admit that I love the work that Shorty and Pam have done for us (and yes I now have a new signature with my boy which I absolutely adore). I like the idea of being able to choose either one or the other if that is possible. That would please just about everyone then.

I have tried the avatar and it was very nice but I'm still rooting for the sigs.
The animated avatar is quite annoying to me as it keeps drawing my eyes away from reading the relevant posts.
Maybe we should have a poll Patrick, people who don't normally post might be willing to cast a vote.
I'd like to add a thanks to Poops, Shorty, Cat and Pam for all the animated sigs and avatars they have so kindly made for all of us.
Let's keep this nice and calm, we are all here for the fun and friendship.
Nobody needs to leave or be hurt, this is our forum made for our pleasure.

Minnie. (Polly's big sis)
Thanks to Kymmie.

I've held off posting on this until now, but to be honest, I love the sigs animated or not. I tried the avatar and while it was nice and looked good, I found it distracting. Maybe I've gotten used to expecting them at the end of a post, but I think that probably not. I'm used to letters being signed at the bottom as well as editorials, poems, most art work that's signed, legal documents, checks, etc. Why should it be any different here? Since the animated sigs have gained popularity, it's made it easier for me to find particular posts I'm looking for, as well. I don't have to scroll as slowly to find it, I just look for the sigs.
Kymmie, please reconsider. We love having your enthusiasm and fun here and would really miss it when you were gone.

Davidmad: We will absolutely have a poll. Again, next week. I want people to have the chance to play around with both options first. And come up with alternative ideas, such as the one proposed by...
popo: I thought about the same thing last night (giving each user the choice). I guess, the question is, is this "the best of both worlds" (everyone gets to do whichever they prefer) or "the worst of both worlds" (now images are both on the left and bottom of posts - albeit not in the same post). There's also no way for me to set the forum to allow only one or the other, so it won't be long before (especially new) users will do both and will have to be asked individually to make a choice. I think that might create a source of continual friction. Opinions?
As for keeping images on your HD and uploading them. Sadly, no. That functionality is only available on avatar images.

MO, I can' take credit for making sigs I didn't, all I have done was add some names to the avatars by request and found sigs for some of the friends.I'd like to add a thanks to Poops, Shorty, Cat and Pam for all the animated sigs and avatars they have so kindly made for all of us.
But thanks for the kind words, your a dear friend.

It's just an anagram of my name, that's all. Perhaps it doesn't have the same degree of nastiness over here. It's more of a children's term for it. Would you rather it said 'crap'?
I will be trying out different ones over the next few days, so don't get too used to it.
btw, what's it like to have no sense of humour?

Oh dear.............major misunderstanding!!!!!!popo wrote:btw, what's it like to have no sense of humour?
In my post I had added a ps that said "For anyone who doesn't know me I am just kidding". Then I removed it, because I thought you would know I was just kidding.
So sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound bad....I think it is a very cute avatar! Please accept my apology.
jg

I just knew you would remove that post. Following in OG's footsteps.
No-one will know what's gone on tomorrow when I've changed it anyway.
Is this one better, it's Minimee. Patrick, don't go telling me the you know what's are too big, that's what I look like.

That's my husband on the laptop, btw.

Hi Ann,ann3120 wrote: Does that mean you can use color - as in purple ? ? ? ? ? ?
(I wish we could have colored/purple smileys as well).
I found these purple smilies for you as I was searching through the millions of avatars on the web.
They are actually too large to use as smilies in a post, but you could use them as an avatar or a sig if you like.
They are .jpg (still pictures) and not .gif (animated)

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Here's my first effort on any front dedicated to my fave artist Sergio Aragones!... need to do something about the shading but that's for another day.
As for which I prefer I think the avatars feel a little neater but I know there's also a lot of passion for the sigs. Doesn't particularly bother me which way they go.
Probably not worth the 5cents (5p for those elsewhere) but there it is.
