To All of the Special Wonderlander Mothers
To All of the Special Wonderlander Mothers
Mother
The young mother set her foot on the path of life. "Is this
the long way?"
she asked. And the guide said "Yes, and the way is hard. And you
will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better
than the beginning."
But the young mother was happy, and she would not believe that
anything could be better than these years.
So she played with her children, she fed them and bathed them,
and taught them how to tie their shoes and ride a bike and
reminded them to feed the dog, and do their homework and brush
their teeth.
The sun shone on them, and the young Mother cried, "Nothing will
ever be lovelier than this."
Then the nights came, and the storms, and the path was
sometimes dark, and the children shook with fear and cold,
and the mother drew them close and covered them with her
arms, and the children said, "Mother, we are not afraid, for
you are near, and no harm can come."
And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and the
children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary.
But at all times she said to the children, A little patience and
we are there."
So the children climbed, and as they climbed they learned to
weather the storms. And with this, she gave them strength
to face the world.
Year after year, she showed them compassion, understanding,
hope, but most of all.... unconditional love.
And when they reached the top they said, "Mother,
we would not have done it without you."
The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the
years, and the mother grew old and she became little and
bent. But her children were tall and strong, and walked with
courage.
And the mother, when she lay down at night, looked up at the
stars and said, "This is a better day than the last, for my
children have learned so much and are now passing these
traits on to their children."
And when the way became rough for her, they lifted her,
and gave her their strength, just as she had given them
hers.
One day they came to a hill, and beyond the hill, they
could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide.
And mother said: "I have reached the end of my journey.
And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for
my children can walk with dignity and pride, with their heads
held high, and so can their children after them."
And the children said, " You will always walk with us,
Mother, even when you have gone through the gates."
And they stood and watched her as she went on alone,
and the gates closed after her.
And they said: "We cannot see her, but she is with us still.
A Mother like ours is more than a memory.
She is a living presence."
Your Mother is always with you. She's the whisper of the
leaves as you walk down the street, she's the smell of
certain foods you remember, flowers you pick and perfume
that she wore, she's the cool hand on your brow when you're not
feeling well, she's your breath in the air on a cold winter's day.
She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep, the colors
of a rainbow, she is Christmas morning.
Your Mother lives inside your laughter. And she's crystallized in
every tear drop. A mother shows every emotion..........
happiness, sadness, fear, jealousy, love, hate, anger,
helplessness, excitement, joy, sorrow..... and all the while,
hoping and praying you will only know the good feelings in life.
She's the place you came from, your first home, and she's the
map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love,
your first friend, even your first enemy, but nothing on earth can
separate you.
Not time, not space...............not even death!
May we never take our Mothers for granted.

I hope you all have a terrible mother's day! like me for the last 30 years.
The last time my BIGHUSBANDZ bought me a gift was 1984! it was a triple pack of Rubber Gloves - yellow. They still had the "reduced to clear" price sticker on.
Mind you in 1990 he went the extra mile more than usual, breakfast in bed! sadly reheated Pizza from the night before, wasn't what I had in mind.
Of course in 1998 he suprised me with a "special bargain romantic-saver" holiday for 2, in 'sunny' Iceland. The plane was so old, we had to hold it together as we took off, I remember holding onto the right wing throughout most of the flight.
Men are rubbish!

I just read that beautiful post from Cat, and it made me think of my own mother, how I miss her - made me cry, but it was for how true Cat's statements were - that she will always be with me. This gave me such a good feeling.
THEN, I read:

THEN, I read:
THAT made me feel terrible and all that happy feeling left me. If it was meant to be a joke, it didn't make me feel happy at all.I hope you all have a terrible mother's day! like me for the last 30 years.

Majic1 just hold onto those beautiful memories of your mom, I still have my mother and I am grateful for that. Your mom will always be with you to and will watch over you.
I lost my father-in-law 11 yrs ago, he treated me like a daughter that my own father didn't do. I sure do miss that man.:cry
Some people just can't stand if someone is happy and have good memories of your loved ones. Just keep thinking of your mom, I know things are hard for you now but brighter days are ahead and we are all here for you.

Hummmm. I think you are right, Janetgalle...it does sound awfully suspicious.
Especially when you consider that Americans and Canadians spell M-O-M, not like the Brits who spell it as M-U-M.

Beautiful poem, Cat. Truly a tribute to Moms everywhere.
I'll be sure to print it off and give it to my mother this Sunday. But, if you write one for Father's day, I'll be too busy weeping to comment. (It'll be 17 years since he passed away, 2 days before Father's Day.)

of Sunday we should call ourself "WonderMom's!"

for writing this, as I didn't my sister in South Carolina sent it to me today.
And all I could think of is to send it here to share with all of the wonderful Mom's here. If I should find a lovely poem for father's day I would be happy to share it with you. As I will be looking for one to send to my brothers and my wonderful husband. Your mother will truly enjoy the poem. Loosing a love one is never easy. Have a great night and a wonderful Mother's Day!
Cat

Thank you for that, Cat.
It brought a tear or two to my eyes too. It made me think of my mom. She and I have had our ups and downs throughout my life, but I wouldn't be who I am without her. She is my best friend and she is my inspiration. She is my mom. I hope my kids feel the same way when they get to be my age.
Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!

Hope you girls have a great mothers day.

BTW Mother's Day in the UK was 21st March, I got two beautiful azaleas for my garden.
What a very nice poem. Thankfully, it skips past those teenage years when Mom doesn't know much and can't do anything right!
Now my son is older, and I've once again grown a brain, but his oldest kid is 10 and so my son is now beginning to experience what it's like to not know much.
I'm lucky that my mom is still alive. She's 92, but looks and acts at least 20 years younger. (She had me when she was 40, and when I was a kid she used to worry that she wouldn't live long enough for me to grow up, hah!)
Happy Mother's Day to all the Wonderland mothers everywhere! I hope you have a great day!
