Weird problem with login and pm's

Post by mette » Wed Nov 17, 2004 4:26 pm

Hi all :)

I have a weird problem when I log in to the forum. Sometimes I get logged off automaticly, even though I've been active the hole time. It just happened 4 times in a row during the last 5 minutes.

Does anyone have a clue what's wrong, or what I'm doing wrong  ?

It also seems that when I send a pm it takes ages before it gets out of my outbox an on to the recipient.

Hope to get some help with this, since it very annoying :(

I think it keeps a copy of the pm you've sent in your outbox while another copy was send to the user you desired. About the auto logoff problem... Maybe someone has your username and password and logs in at another computer; that way your session is shutted down... Ask the forum admin to look up your login history - just a taught..

I don't know why you're getting logged off automatically, but as far as your Outbox in PM's goes - messages will not leave your Outbox until the ricipient has read it; then it is moved to your Sent Box!

Thanks to majic1 for the explation regarding pm's :D and thanks to everyone else for trying :D :D

The log off problem however still seems strange. The only other person who knows my login name and password is my husbond, and we only have one pc. Witch by the way is protected with firewall, antivirus and everything else you can think of. So I'm still quite puzzled about that :?

P.S. It just happend again :!:

Can you tell us what you mean by getting logged off? Do you mean you
are logged out of the forum and back to a home page? Or do you just
need to log back in to the forum, is that what is happening?

Does your browser stay within pcpuzzle..com/forum?
Sorry for all the questions... :? .... but sometimes it helps knowing all
the pieces of the puzzle (as us Wonderlanders know!)

Hi mette,

This is from the FAQ page, hope it helps.

M.A.D.

If you do not check the Log me in automatically box when you log in, the board will only keep you logged in for a preset time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the box during login. This is not recommended if you access the board from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university cluster, etc.

I had the same problem at my work computer.

It's true that the login by default will timeout after a set time, however, the set time should be more on the order of 30 minutes rather than 5 minutes. On my home computer for example the login session is able to stay on a much more reasonable amount of time than a mere few minutes.

It could be some configuration problem with the firewall, or the privacy/security settings in Internet Explorer, I still don't know what's going on.

The solution, as majic1 pointed out, is to check the box when you login to "automatically log you in on each visit". The difference is that by checking the box, I think the server hosting this forum keeps the login session info on its machine rather than on your computer. So the login session will persist no matter what happens on your computer's end (well, until you explicitly log out of course).

I used to check the 'log me in automatically' box, but I always had to login anyway. So now I don't actually log out when I leave the forum, and I don't have to log in when I return. This is not a good idea on a shared computer obviously.

As for the PM's, they won't leave your outbox until the recipient logs on, then it is sent and goes into your sent box.
