But on June 30th, we'll have a Leap Second.

More information.

Wait, the Earth's rotation is slowing down? That's probably what will cause the world ending in 2012...

Actually leap day occurs every four years. It's not slowing down, as the video guy said

Leap days happen every four years because days aren't exactly 24 hours long. Eventually, that time adds up - roughly every four years - to the same length as a day.

It's not slowing down that much, and please don't tell me that you actually believe that nonsense. People claimed May 21 or whatever was the end of the world, and are we still here?

I believe it was May 21st, and it was based in religion. Now, having said that, let's not let religion grow into a discussion here, but I've heard of the equation that... whatever his name was used to predict the May 21st 2011 end-of-world thing.

Pretty sure the equation he used was off by a year - according to his math, it would've been 2010, not 2011.

"You're already dead" jokes were made at one of my old internet hangouts. Good times.

Got your facts a little bit backwards there, sorry. :P

Leap days happen on years that are divisible by 4 or 400, but not every 100 years.

Hah, there is even a code algorithm for determining a leap year:

Code: Select all

if year modulo 4 is 0
   then
if year modulo 100 is 0
           then
if year modulo 400 is 0
                   then
                       is_leap_year
               else
                   not_leap_year
       else
           is_leap_year
else
    not_leap_year

LEAP DAY IS OVER WAHHH
Remember to look at the dates that every post is made. It's been many years, and I, and others, may not be the same people we were when we made them. This is a symbol of where we came from, and should be remembered as that.
