Here's another general one, not really Wonderland-specific: What do you use for graphics/texture creation, like the level textures and such?

EDIT: oh hey new page

This is an odd question that just came to me:

When you were working on MOFI, you hired people to design adventures for the game. Why didn't you do a similar thing during the production of POTZ?

I can sort-of-guess the reason behind that. I guess MS includes fan made levels in the wonderland game right after relesing its editor. (WSW after RTW editor, MOFI after WA editor). Moreover, I guess the fanmade levels were triggering the difficulty issue in MOFI, so it would be wise to not use that again.

MOFI and WSW had fan made levels?

That explains the extreme diffuculty at the end of both games.

A majority of the levels in MoFI and WSW (correct me on the latter if I'm wrong) were done by community members that Patrick hired for the game.

My guess as to why he didn't go the community route with PoTZ is because of the reaction to MoFI's difficulty.

Saying that, MoFI isn't a bad game by any means. Compare it to WA1, and it's definitely harder, but more than that - it starts getting much harder at a much faster rate.

MOFI wasn't really that that hard until Sundog Island, where it started to get a bit difficult. The Ice Fortress, however, was evil.

I couldn't beat some of those adventures even with the level solutions.

Pirate Camp, though??

Seriously though, it's the later parts of the game where the difficulty curve becomes evident, yeah. It's not bad earlier on, it just gets crazier as time goes on.

Having said that, it's still definitely steeper than WA1's.

I said "that hard," not easy.

I was able to complete up to the acid swamps without too much difficulty. The pirate camp was where I had to start taking peeks at the level solutions occasionally.

I played through MoFI again recently, pretty much the same results here. There were some earlier on where I couldn't work out how to get 100%, but it was pretty much post-pirate camp where I got completely stuck.

The last time I played it other than that would've been years ago, I got stuck much earlier on, I think.

Let's not side-track the thread... but I'll answer this one.

I was very happy with the collaboration and results for both WSW and MOFI. My only reason for not doing this with POTS was because my schedule was very unknowable and I didn't want to start a process that I couldn't guarantee I could commit to.

I'm quite certain that there'll be level editors involved in future projects, one way or another.

Thanks for answering my question. :)

And by the way, the initials of your next game are POTZ - not POTS.

Yes, the "S" stands for "Silly Rabbit, I'm just joking!".

Questions for Midnight Synergy:

1. Are you a self taught programmer or did you take any helpful classes in high school or college?
2. How tall are you in relation to a Stinker?

MS was going to tell us how it became the name Z-bots to S-bots, I told it!
I think S in S-bots mean by Strong-bots which are not zippy but strong.
