Transporters-question about gate

When I get to Wondertown or wherever, where the bridge is out and I have to use the transporters to get across? There is a gate there on the one end. But I can't open it. Where is the key?

You can't open that gate yet! At the appropriate time you will be given the key for that gate, but you have to have found four of the shards before you can get in there.
