Another Update

Hello folks,

here's another update on my quest to fix those last little nasty RTW bugs.

v2.04 fixes a few more memory leaks (I think I might have gotten them all now), as well as the "Phantom Signs" bug and the "ghosts kill Stinky in the exit MAV" bug.

The zip file only contains the wdlgame.exe file - you need to unzip this into your existing RTW Deluxe directory, i.e. replacing the old version of that file. Don't simply run the .exe on its own or from within the zip as it will produce an error.
http://www.midnightsynergy.com/returnto ... dlgame.zip

As with the other updates (in the "Help! Fatal Crashes!" thread) these are still "unofficial" which is why I'm not putting them up on the main website, just in the forum. I want to wait until all bugs have been squashed (and make sure I didn't introduce any new ones).

From the other posts in that thread it seemed like the previous versions helped the fatal crash bug somewhat (although Kaboom! reported getting another one). Again, post any problems encountered here.

On a personal note, I likely won't update again until end of August. I will be away from the computer (yes! a holiday! those things still exist???) for some time, and will hence be slow or unable to respond to e-mails. Just so you know if I'm quiet or not responding to posts etc for the next little while.

Of course, I still haven't responded to Linkys latest techical questions - so maybe that isn't much of a change! ;)

Hi MS,
This update trashed my rtwd game. it wouldn't even play. I had to unstall the game and reinstall. I am using professional windows 2000 and have a Asylum V3.6 video card! Using direct x 9. Possibly I didn't need the update as I have had very few lockups or any other problems. Thanks for making such a wonderful game and for trying fix problems that might arise.

A loyal Wonderland player

Dang! That ain't good. Grrrrr. If anyone else has that issue, remember that you can also grab the previous 2.03 version from here:

http://www.midnightsynergy.com/returnto ... dlgame.zip

if necessary. That way you don't have to reinstall the whole game.

Guess I still have some thing to work on.

Enjoy your vacation! You definitely deserve a big one after all that work you've put in to make all this possible in the first place! 8)

I can't remember the what the error was, I used winzip to unzip the update.
And it did that when I went to tell winzip where to put the exe then that is when I got the error. Is there somewhere that winzip stores the errors?
If so I tell you what he error was. Have a great vacation. That is ok I am up and running again, I saved the rtwd on my other drive so it was no big deal.
I just will not run the update, my game is acting just fine, I 've not had any problems.
Thanks Mr. MS

Cat,
So you got the error while unzipping? Was RTW running when you extracted the file? That might cause problems. I extracted the .exe file and do far havehad no problems.

Hi Pat

A holiday? Vaguely remember one of those  Have heaps of fun & fill us in on all the details when you get back OK.

And don't worry, we'll look after things while you're gone (heh heh heh)

Robbie :D

... really... things will still be normal when you get back...

(Pat finishes packing the car... looks back & wonders if it's really safe to leave them alone...)

He might not be able to answer since he is on vacation.

If you didn't change default location when you installed the game, here is the path to the main directory.

C:\Return To Wonderland Deluxe

If you highlight that, you will see everything that makes the game run :)

I haven't installed any updates yet either. I'm waiting until there's one that causes no more problems. Can't see the point of getting rid of one problem to have another one start.

Hi Jperleet,
yes I got the error while using winzip, no RTW was not running. I never run any programs while unziping any file. It was just the update while unzipping caused me problems, no other programs running. I haven't had any problems either while extracting files either except for this time. Thanks for trying to help.

I thought it might keep me from having any problems, but I was wrong.
So very true, Eeyore, I heard that before myself. I will remember that before I decide to update again. :-) Have a great day !

Well, it DOES SEEM that the "Stinky-exit-Loof-ESC-Restart" Fatal Crash BUG didn't striked yet... I hope it keeps like this.

I downloaded the above update and have had NO trouble. Before, I was having crashes frequently - to the point of almost giving up. Since this update there have been no crashes. The jerkiness does appear sometimes, but not as often ( have DirectX 9).

yES, SAME FOR ME. The jerkiness however appears mostly in custom levels. :?

Has anybody with Windows 98 downloaded the latest update? When I downloaded the first update, I had serious problems with the game slowing down to the point of unplayablilty. Version 2.03 solved that but I'm still having crashes. Not as bad as previously. I don't know whether to download the latest update or not.

I just had something weird happen that may just be MY problem & not with Wonderland. I've had no crashes, no problems, nothing - tonight tho, I had Wonderland open & the editor - as USUAL!! I switched to the editor and got a blank screen that just sat there, then a yellow triangle showed up that I could move with the mouse, then I couldn't, then it changed to a little yellow square!! Only way out was ctr alt del. This worked & I reopened the editor and can switch between the two again (RTWD & Editor). Don't know why this happened, and as I said it may be at MY end, but I thought I should mention it!!!
