You really need to stop saying that one adventure is better than another. After all of the time I wasted on GC2, I feel like I just got slapped in the face. This is why I quit making adventures.

DO NOT DO THIS!!! You're probably feeling like I did during the Snowstorm incident, but PLEASE don't leave! You're the funniest adventure maker on the forum, and you make some of the best puzzles!
Standards have risen so much that adventure designing feels like a chore, and I'm sure lots of people can relate to that. Not to mention the Wonderland Adventures fanbase has become pretty much unpleasable in terms of custom adventures. No matter what you make, there WILL be someone who criticizes you. I understand that people are trying to help each other make a supposedly nigh-perfect adventure, but it's just not possible since people have differing opinions on what's fun and what's not. Due to all of the criticism, designing adventures feels more like writing an essay nowadays because I've been thinking "Are people going to like this?" rather than "This is FUN!"

Well, I do agree that people are being overly-critical of perfectly good adventures.

...I was going to say more, but I didn't know what to say. Uh, everyone please stop being critical! It's not nice! Yeah.

I thought my comment about the adventure on this topic was very polite. I mentioned some bad moments, but I thought the rest of it was brilliant!
It seems that you are so encouraging towards some people that it ends up being insulting to others. You give decent criticism for say, Emerald or MNIK, and spout praise for other users. I think that's a large part of the problem.
yot yot5 wrote:BTW, I think we should stop cluttering up Wonderman's topic. Can we discuss this on the General Wonderland Adventures Editor Discussion forum?
This sort of random stuff does generally happen in people's adventure topics. If we create a new topic for this, it just gets worse. (Heck, I think I have a mini-adventure in one of Nobody's adventure topics somewhere.)

I give decent criticism when there's something to criticize. I spout praise whenever I think it deserves it.
So sometimes hard work doesn't deserve praise? Well, time to stop listening to you then.

So, where to begin? Personally, there are two rules that I believe should be followed. One, don't be rude. This should be pretty obvious. Examples of being rude would be saying stuff like "This adventure SUCKS!!!!" or "This adventure is sooooo much better than this other dumb adventure," or saying that you didn't like an adventure without giving any reasons. I think most people on this forum follow this rule fine. However, the second rule is causing all of these debates. It is that you should talk about a flaw as much as the flaw makes the piece of work flawed. You're probably confused, so let me give you an example. I give a video game a 9 out of 10. I would have given it a 10 if it weren't for a single flaw. When critiquing the game, I should spend around 90% of the article saying what I liked and around 10% saying what I didn't like. If it was the other way around, then the article makes it sound like I didn't enjoy the game, when I really did, just because I was focusing on the one flaw. It's also important to note that not much should be said about minor flaws. Some flaws are so minor that they shouldn't be mentioned. However, I think this rule is not being followed enough. We spend too much time critquing an adventure, and not enough time praising it. Does that mean you can't critque at all? Of course not! Heck, I think it's okay to say that you don't like an adventure, as long as you follow the two rules.

On the other hand, people responding to criticism they received should also follow the two rules. This has also caused some problems on this forum. If one person says that he/she didn't like your adventure, don't throw a hissy fit, respond to them nicely. If one person continues to say bad things about your adventures, then just ignore them. Don't start whining, or else you're just as bad as the complainer.

Finally, no one's perfect. Everyone is going to break one of those two rules every so often. I have done so before, you have done so before, everybody has done so before. But if you break the rules too often, then people will no longer listen to you.
