Needless to say the obvious route was never going to work so I kept looking around and when I re-read one of your signs I thought, "...is that a clue?".
Well it was for me and it led me on the proper path to getting the machinery going.

This was one
nether of a good and scary compilation, Chip!
The
fire spewing out from all sides and the absolutely confoundedly placed coins
all inspired to make a night of enchantment;
as well as scaring the hats off of Quookie.

Here's more about the clue that was helpful for Bob:
1. Read the signs and the title. Watch for coincidences...
2. ...or a contrast: 'LIGHT - HEAVY' looks interesting.
3. An ice cube can block and redirect a sliding prism.
4. Big spoiler: Place the cube above the left ice curve of the prism machine and start it.
5. Now the spreading fires aren't very dangerous. You can avoid them easily.
