Computer Games!

Post by JeffH » Fri Oct 14, 2005 7:28 pm

Hi!,

Stinky is running around inside my computer!

(New models)
DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS:

download model files: People have their zip's or WinRAR set up many different ways! What might unzip in the right place on one computer might unzip to other places on others (Expecially with WinRAR).
So I've packed these files with full directories:
C:/Program Files/Return To Wonderland Deluxe/CustomModels/JeffHx1M
HOWEVER, the only FOOLPROOF way around it is to open your CustomModel directory and then the .zip and open to the JeffHx1M directory and drag and drop that folder into YOUR CustomModel directory directly from the archive! Also all the .jpg files inside that folder are needed as textures for the models! Keep them there!

Cheers,

JeffH

Luved this one, Jeff. True Wonderland puzzle. Got spiked the first time -- moved too fast -- but next time was a WINNER :!: :!: Thanks for a most enjoyable time.

Great fun, Jeff. Signs were so appropriate -- specially the ORKIN man. Stinky got home with all the loot & is now going out for pizza
:!: :!:

Edit: Posted on wrong level, Jeff....this should be for GARDEN GAMES. Sorry about that :!: :!:

Just played this one, too.

Some of the signs are hilarious and the models are simply fantastic.

Absolutely wonderful fun.

Thanks, Jeff. :D :D :D

Jeff, Like Kazza, I could not get the models for this level. Using JG's for the "Garden" level, I could get those models.

Stunning, fabulous and hilariously funny. The models are so amazing. My favourite was the chip burning in (or out!). The floor was groovy and full of constant surprises.
:D 8) :D

Stinky enjoyed his ride around in the Universal Serial Bus, got his buffers buffed and avoided the power spikes - lucky he's got rubber soles on his trainers.

Thank you so much Jeff - I loved it.

I loved your Computer level, too, Jeff. You are so creative
and with a wonderlandful sense of humor. Great fun

Back to the models - I finally managed to get them, by reading your FOOLPROOF
instructions - but it still didn't work - at first.

I extracted the files and dragged them to the folder that had been created, but no models.
However, the folder was called "program files", so I changed its name to "JeffHx1M"
and everything worked smoothly.

It was nice to figure it out for myself - but much easier to wait for JG's help next time ! ! ! !

Cat,

Modeling is an artform in and of itself, but to get a really creative program is the rub to most of us in the biz. I use Cinema-4D and then convert the models to .3DS (3dStudio) files using Milkshape 1.75 which despite what RTW docs say is NOT a modeling program but a conversion program you can do very limited modeling in. Now C4D costs about a grand, Milkshape about $75, and 3D Studio Max about $7000-3000 depending on the level of program you use. Trying to model in a low-grade program is neigh impossible. Modeling is a process where I usually work the design out on paper and then scan the final sketches and put the scans up as a background and model over it to match (3 sketches, top, side and front). About the cheapest route I'd suggest is Truespace 3D from Calligari, It's relitively cheap and a good interface to get started but you MUST read the docs and to the tutorials! Remember that few programs will output a 3DS file compatable with RTW! You might still have to convert though Milkshape. I also use Milkshape to scale and rotate the models to RTW standards. Even then I usually have to tweek the models about four or five times to get them just right on the RTW test runs. (Like the computer floor I had a TON of problems getting it just off the RTW floor). I know this stuff should go into the Modeling forum, but that place is a dry well full of amatures and know it alls and I had no fun there at all. So, I'm happy here building models as a secondary stage to making good games. (I hope to get lots better at the games). Like two I'm working on now (It take about a week to get eight models made and tweeked) I have a shipwreck model driving me crazy. A skeleton that needs tweeking, and so on. OH! And keep the models under 5000 polygons if at all possible! (File size). GOOD LUCK and I'm here or at mail@jeffhankla.com if you need help.

Cheers,
JeffH
