I think it took me years to solve this, but I did it!

I had to set up the second room before I completed the first.

Another wonderful machine Chip.
I think you must be an engineer.

This makes the things much easier. Nevertheless...

... you can start with the puzzle in the first room (green timer puzzle). But then: Finish the setup in the second room, before you bring along the needed item to run the machine.

I tried the first area for awhile but got nowhere so I also moved onto the second room and then came back to the first, at that point I had better idea of what I wanted where and thankfully it worked.

The hints:

1. The Fountain Of Years (first room):
There are years to move (wood) and years to rest (steel). But they are at the wrong places.
Step on the top conveyor to change the place of the upper boxes.
Then step on the lowest conveyor to change the place of the lower boxes.
Start the fountain by pushing the leftmost wooden box R.

2. The Wheel Of Time (second room):
Push a steel box into every spoke of the wheel.
Go back to The Fountain Of Years and bring along the fifth steel box to run the device.

3. The exit (third room):
Use a wooden box to solve the exit puzzle.
