New Level (Advanced) - Lichi Nuts
New Level (Advanced) - Lichi Nuts
Sheesh - Custom Objects take a long time to work out. I feel like I've been totally out of touch with the forum for the last day and a half. So much to catch up on, you've all been quite busy.
This level has some challenges, but is mostly to showcase some new custom objects.
The zip file - sfsbeach1 should be unzipped in the CustomModels directory. If your zip utility is able to create folders and this option is enabled, the files will be unzipped into a new subdirectory: sfsbeach1.
If your zip does not allow this, or if you drag and drop the files out of the zip file, you will need to manually create the subdirectory.
The level - lichinuts.lv5 should be ready to use.
Various versions of these object which you can use in your levels can be found at:
http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1233
Let me know if there are problems or questions.

OH! I loved the look of this - the palm trees & the tent were wonderful! Especially the way the merchant tent is at an angle - I had Peegue going in circles wondering where he was going!! I'm definitely going to download your other zip files - can't wait to see the various versions!
OH YEAH - the LEVEL!! Got all the coins & then ran in circles looking for the exit. By the time I FINALLY found it, the time ran out - now I've gotta do it again & figure out how to get in there (to the exit)!!!
Great!!

Re: New Leve (Advanced) - Lichi Nuts
I haven't played the level yet, but it looks fantastic!
The first thing that "wowed" me are the palm trees! I've been looking for that sort of thing but came up rather short. Where did you find them?!?!? Or did you create them yourself? If you found them on the Internet, you must give me the link! I have to see what other great stuff I can find!
If you create them yourself, wow, consider yourself the official custom model artist for the community from now on.
And I love the way you set the merchant tent at an angle--it would'be been so easy and boring to orient everything to straight rectangles lining up with the horizontal and vertical, I'm glad you have the aesthetic intuition to come up with a more interesting orientation!
I'm glad more than one person here now can fully appreciate how much work it can take to create models, or even just modify models for Wonderland use! But the result is well worth it, as your level has demonstrated! Keep up the good work!
Okay, enough me talking and gushing, let me play your level now.

Sorry, no artistic bones in this body. All of the models were borrowed and modified. The palm trees were indeed the most challenging. I did probably a dozen different google searches and visited close to a hundred sites, some had them for sale, some had the tree but no textures so it was just a white outline, others didn't work for various reasons. One looked great in the editing program but every time I tried to export it to 3DS format my system crashed. Turns out the reason it looked so great is that it had over 40,000 polygons in it. I finally found a shape I could use relatively easily, borrowed the textures from another site, and had to adjust the colors so that it looked okay in Wonderland. I will try and sort through my notes to remember which sites were helpful and will post it either here, or perhaps in the custom content forum. It may be a day or two, I'm pretty burned out at the moment.

just want to say that your level was enjoyable to play as well as to look at.
Like majic1, I initially have some trouble with the exit, but Qookie eventually found a way to get enough boxes for Peegue to pave his way to the exit.
And you definitely deserve a rest. I know I'm probably not going to do more custom model work until the upcoming weekend, after spending hours on the last 3 models I posted, and even more time searching (in vain) for a better tool than Milkshape.
So go ahead and take a nice break first before trying to sort out where you find the models etc.

Hi steve,
Your models are wonderful (or should that be Wonderlandful
)
I really love those trees, and the tent really looks like canvas. Oh, and the turtles are so beautiful. All I was short of was a beach towel.
You've done a really great job.
The readme files are a good idea too, just to be on the safe side.
Get yourself refreshed and make some more .......Pleeeeeeeze.
