Problem with entering Forums from WA

Post by bpurcell » Wed Feb 21, 2007 6:01 pm

Patrick,

When I click to enter the Discussion forums from WA, two browser windows pop up of the forums. This consistently happens on repeated attempts. I am using Windows Vista (32 bit) and Firefox 2 is my default browser.

You mean you get the forum twice? That's odd... it just links you here:

Do you get two windows opening if you go there normally as well?

Yes, I get the forum opened up in two Windows. It doesn't happen when I just click on Firefox. I just tried it with the older Wonderland games, and the same double browser problem happens. This might be more an issue with Vista than with Wonderland. Perhaps there's some issue when a program opens an internet link? Have you tested Wonderland with Vista yet?

OK, I'm not sure exactly what I did, but the double browser error has stopped! :?:

I restarted my computer, then tried the links again. The double browsers were still happening. I tried two other similar games (web links inside game menu), Chicken Invaders and Fizzball. They didn't give me the double browser. I think rechecked the Wonderland games and "poof" the double browser problem was gone!

On a side not for a separate issue. I turned off my UAC option in Vista (when it's on, it asks you EVERY TIME you open something whether you REALLY want to open it). I did a restart, and when I opened up WA, my user Profile was gone! I checked in the WA directory, and my profile folder was not there. I've never seen that before in other programs. I made a new profile and restarted the computer (just to make sure the restart wasn't the cause) and it didn't lose the profile this time. Maybe turning off the UAC caused the folder to be deleted??? I'll test this again later to see if I can repeat this. Fortunately I hadn't gotten that far in the game yet.

That's a windows thing. The UAC "mimics" a separate folder in (I believe) your documents folder. With UAC on, everything is basically thrown into that document folder . Even if a game/program saves something into its own directory, Windows just "pretends" that happened, but actually puts it into the UAC folder.

If you select a different UAC, or turn it off completely, these files are then put into a different UAC folder (or none whatsoever) - which is why a game or other program then can't find the original files anymore.

If you ever change a UAC (and that goes for any program, not just Wonderland), you should be able to find and copy the user data from the old My Documents folder to the new one - you might need to be in administrator mode to do so.

Hi Patrick,
Is there going to be a "Hints" page I'm stuck on the Ice part.

Thank you

Foxxie - just use the Help Section of the forum. I suppose you mean Frostbite Cave? There is a small hint by dcls there.

Regarding UAC, I also just got a PM that perhaps my explanation of how it works was not quite correct - so take what I said with a grain of salt. :)
