Problem with models
I can't texture models. When I make a skin image, it just displays one colour, not the image.
I'm using Wings3D. How do I texture models?

He's talking about puting the texture ON the model.dlcs18 wrote:Why did you post then?Blast!10 wrote:I have no idea how to put the textures on them![]()
Anyway, You have model1.3ds which is the model (Obviosly) and you have to save the texture as model1.jpg
Importing color onto the model without a .jpg image in the file.

Take a look at jg's super couch and chair models, for example.

But what's wrong with having a jpg image with it?Toon Dog wrote:He's talking about puting the texture ON the model.dlcs18 wrote:Why did you post then?Blast!10 wrote:I have no idea how to put the textures on them![]()

It might texture a part of the model that doesn't look good where it is.dlcs18 wrote:But what's wrong with having a jpg image with it?Toon Dog wrote:He's talking about puting the texture ON the model.dlcs18 wrote:Why did you post then?Blast!10 wrote:I have no idea how to put the textures on them![]()

Like red handels and yellow cloth instead of brown handels and red-yellow cloth.

I don't know anything about Wing3D but there are basically two ways to colour a model. One is with the inbuilt colouring tool where you can make different surfaces different colours and you don't need a jpg file. The other is by using one or more jpg files with a texture on them. These have to be assigned to the model, or parts of the model.
In AC3D it is done in the Texture Coordinate Editor. If a texture is loaded and not assigned then the model uses the predominate colour in the texture as a base colour. That is probably what is happening to your model.
This also happens if you have a model that is part textured and part coloured and you name the jpg file model#.jpg. The model then takes the predominate colour in the texture for the part of the model that hasn't been assigned. An example is the Flagpole model I made for Secret Worlds. The pole should have been white but the flag is mostly blue, and as the file was named model#.jpg the pole took it's colour from the flag texture and turned blue. It baffled me for a while when it happened.
Is there a help file with Wings3D? It should give instructions on assigning textures in there.

I did a bit of fiddling after importing an image and saw something that I had seen before.
For some reason it put the texture from the .jpg onto the model completely, and the model was textured.
I right clicked the model and went the "UV mapping", then I clicked "Direct",
then "Continue" after right clicking again, and "Unfolding". I don't understand what actually happened.

No I don't! when I used AC3D I named the skin images differently and I put multiple often, and it still worked!dlcs18 wrote:and you have to save the texture as model1.jpg
