Midnight Synergy moved the Lateral Thinking Topic to this section just before he delted the silly section
It's 12 because 1/2 of 80 is 40 And 80 divided by 40 is 2 (Because 80 divided by 80 is 1, if you divide it with half the number it's 2) And add 10 and it's 12!
Very compilcated!

The 1/2 is representing a number in this riddle.
Dividing by 1/2 is the same as multiplying by 2, therefore 80 divide by 1/2 will be 160 and adding 10 is 170.

If you translate it in words it didn't say "divide in half" it said "divide by half".

holding aside the 10 for now:
80 divided by 1/2
= (80/1) divided by (1/2)
multipy each ( ) by 2
2 x 80 divided by 2 x 1/2
= 160 divided by 1
=160
now add your 10
=170
hope this helps
PS That book is a dictionary, where certain things go in a certain order, it is alphabetical.

Two last answers were right!
1: rasip. Sanip=Spain - COUNTRY. Aegnldn=England - COUNTRY. Dahnlol=Holland - COUNTRY. Rasip=Paris - CITY
2: 170. NOT 50. dividing by 1/2 is the same as multiplying by 2, therefore, 80 divided by 1/2 is the same as 80 multiplied by 2, which is 160. 160+10=170.

But it just doesn't work that way! 80 divided by 40 is 2, It just doesn't work!

I can't get 80 divided by half to get the same answer as 80 multiplied by 2

Dividing IN half is dividing by 2.
Dividing BY half is dividing by 1/2 which is in turn multiplying by 2.

Dlcs, try it this way:
1/2 = 0.5
80 divided by 0.5 = 160.

If you're looking, you can't see me.
If you see me, you can't see anything else.

darkness is my guess, because you can't see darkness when you're seeing other things, but when you see darkness you can't see other things

Nope. Like you're looking at the entrance to an open and completely dark room, without a single bit of light, you see the darkness in the room, BUT you can still see the things
surrounding the room (which are not in the darkness)

I think Lutz is right, when you see your eyelids, you're not actually looking at all, and if you're not looking, that's all you can see.

I can't get 80 divided by half to get the same answer as 80 multiplied by 2

80 / 1/2 means "How many times can the 1/2 go into the number 80". You need two '1/2' to make one, and 80 / 1 = 80.
So 80 / 1/2 = 80 * 2 = 160 + 10 = 170.

I already got it because Gen posted, No-one else told me that it was actually 1/2 on it's own, so I kept thinking it was 1/2 of 80.
