Custom Models Catalog--Now has Two Volumes.

Post by jobec5 » Sun Mar 25, 2007 11:29 pm

Hi Everyone :D
EDIT Sunday 4/15/07 RE-EDIT Problem solved Monday 4/15 --See Volume 2 of catalog in Custom Content.) Link provided below (@my sig.)
CAN SOMEONE HELP PLEASE. (Advise or just confirm that this is possible)
PATRICK WILL PROBABLY BE ABLE TO GIVE ME THE DEFINITIVE ANSWER HERE, BUT UNTIL THEN :
I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO ENTER ANY new DATA INTO THE CATALOG.
Each new keystroke deletes entries from the bottom. At this point I will shift the last two or three categories over to a new post and hopefully find a solution to this dilemma.

In my efforts to create interesting levels, I have found that it takes a bit of time deciphering just which model is which within a package. Some model makers like Popo frequently give us a "read me" file that fulfills this need but many model "packs" lack this feature. The other problem I have found is that the Name of the Custom Model is not very descriptive itself. (Please do not take this as a criticism model makers as you do so much just by providing the models themselves.)

So I was wondering if there would be some interest in having an addition to the Models list of Mettes which would provide the following for each Custom Model:
1. Model Name.zip?/ Model Maker / Link to the zip file (edit)
2. State how many models are included in pack.
3. Brief description of each model with their designation (ie. Model1....Model4./ A,B,C, or D) for ease of use in the editor.)

I will be happy to do the grunt work on this if there is a favorable response. Let me hear from you please and I would welcome any suggestions to improve or add to the contents of this list.

Becky :D

Just yesterday I was looking for a model I knew existed, but had no idea where to find it. I think it's a great idea!

You are ambitious. :) :)
Go for it, if you have the time.
Thanks,
jg

I confuse myself all the time, knowing I have something but not being able to find it again.
I'll see if I can scrape something together to help you out. (Grunt)

Thanks Ladies

Hi gals :D :D

You know I really just started to do this for myself but said "what the heck", why not share my research. So should I just start a post in Custom Content and keep adding to and editting it? (When I spoke w/Mette about this she suggested that it go in the forum, not her website which is fine, as long as its okay with Patrick)

Thanks for your quick responses too. I appreciate it.

If Patrick is ok with what you are doing then he could make it into a sticky thread so it stays at the top of the custom forum. That way it is always visible and easily accessible.

Catalog is in the works

Post by jobec5 » Wed Mar 28, 2007 4:29 pm

Dear Janet, Loirae and Donna :D :D :D

Thanks for your thoughts about the catalog. I already had a customer stop by and knock on the door of my "print shop" when he just had to have an old model he saw in the catalog site:

http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12302

I was originally going to do something like this for my own use in the editor but thought that others might find it useful as well.

I think it's a great idea Becky. :D :D

Lots of work though!

So many of those wonderful models are fogotten about because people just don't know what's there.

Thanks to you all who replied, else this would not have gotten started. I already heard from a couple of people regarding how it has helped them. I know it's saving me time.

I appreciate everyones feedback. It always means a lot to me. You're a great bunch!

Becky :D

PS Cat has helped a lot! We still have much more to do.

Becky - I've just been looking at the catalogue.

What a fantastic job you're doing there! :D :D

Acres of hard work, but it will be an invaluable reference source for all level makers.

Thanks so much! Image

There is most likely a maximum character limit for posts otherwise a post could be pages long. You will have to split the catalogue up into smaller chunks. Probably several as you will need to keep adding to them. Perhaps have so many catagories in each.

Looks like a lot more work for you to sort it out though. Perhaps Patrick could delete the posts from other people on that thread and leave it just for you to add new posts to move some catagories over to. That way the different posts for the catalogue won't be split up by other people's posts, and will all be together in one place.

Thank you popo

Apparently we had the same thoughts regarding this situation

All better now.

Indeed the catalog is now 2 volumes and may go to three.
Do you have any thoughts on the desirablility of an index or table of contents which would list the CATEGORIES?

Thanks for you fast response

Always

I don't think a seperate index would be necessary. You could just title the thread so we know what letters are in each one. For instance Custom Models Catalog - A to E, something like that. :D

Cathy Lillie & Liz

Post by jobec5 » Tue Apr 17, 2007 9:22 pm

:D Well my friends :D :D

It is a labor of love. You have all been so kind to welcome me into this amazing wacky family of ours and it feels really good to be able to give something back. I mean this from the bottom of my heart  :D

Liz has helped a lot by sending small batches of data on her models. It is easy to cut and paste right from the pm mailbox. And believe it or not I enjoy the clerical work in small doses. When it gets fuzzy to me, I go do some gardening

Thanks again Cathy, Lillie and Liz...you are all so sweet and encouraging. :D

Always
Becky
