Crossroads level 3

On my screenshot you see I'm past the spikeballs. But I miss the other half of the path( arrow). It does not appear.
Why are those yellow turning points there?
Has it something to do with those missing squares?

You made the same mistake I did. I felt such a dork when I realised.

You don't need to take the stinkers across the road. Give one of those buttons a couple of twists and go back and look what's different on the other side.
