Skype

Post by rescuefire » Sun Jan 06, 2008 11:39 pm

Does anyone around Wonderland have Skype?

It's a free, yep FREE service to chat online using a microphone & speakers or a headset.

You can also make telephone calls from it if you buy "skype credit" but it appears to be around .20+ per minute for even a local call.

I just thought it might be cool to skype to some of the Wonderlandaholics here hehehe

Here's the info. Quick download and free free free, I like free :D

I've had it for sometime, but don't use it much. Occasionally talk with my nephew in GA. I don't leave it online all the time only when I want to use it as it causes too many hits on my firewall, which is annoying.

It can be a bit slow if one party has dial-up, but is fine with a high speed IP. I do recommend it to save on long distance phone calls and there is no cost if both parties use Skype and no landline.

Yep that whole Skype to Skype is what interested me the most.

I use a calling card for long distance so it's three and a half cents a minute, ya can't bet that.

I just wondered how well it worked. You answered one of my biggest questions, what if the other party has dial up? Good to know, thanks :D

I got a Webcam for Christmas and we are thinking of getting Skype soon so that we can chat with our good friends that have recently moved to Australia :( Do we need a microphone too then? :? When, and if, my hubby sets it all up I'll give you a call Robyn! :D

I heard about Skype, just never checked it out. I have a web-cam and a microphone but neither is hooked up, might just have to hook everything back up and give it a try.

Yep ya need a microphone but you don't need a web cam. You can use a web cam and do the whole video conference thing too. Otherwise it's just like making a phone call.

I actually have a cheapy headset that works pretty good. They let you make one call free once you've downloaded it. It really was just like the phone.

I kinda thought it would be nice for people to talk to out of town friends and stuff as if on the phone for free. Chat programs are ok but typing and reading can change the meaning of what is really being said. Or should I say change the intent behind what is being said.

I'm gonna mess with it more today. Maybe talk to Gen for a bit :D

Monica, after struggling with photos in paint, Kodak and HP Imaging (with no luck at all) I finally downloaded Irfanview. Awesome!!! Thanks so much for telling me about it. And it was FREE!!! :D :D :D :D 8)

I've been using irfanview for years, it's great. It's so easy to resize pics and change their format also. (.bmp to .jpg) There is a few things you can't do with it but that's ok, I've always got something other program I can use. Sometimes I just get confused about what does what....

You are more than welcome.

I'll take a look at it tomorrow when I have more time. I'll have to look for my microphone. Now that I have a bigger hard drive I can hook my cam back up also, maybe learn how to use it in yahoo, I have a lot of friends and family that have it. Of course I'm probably the only one with a web cam.
I wasted most my day at the Doctors, then I had to go buy me some new fishy's. I was so inspired by Liz's pirate series I just had to have an aquarium. Got it set up last Thursday and went and got me 5 little fishes today. Their so cute.

I've had the worst luck with fish. Used to have great luck. We had a goldfish, multi-colored, that we called Jaws. He just kept growin' and growin'. He lived for almost 5 years until, stupid me, we put a little crap eater type fish in there. Then they both died

We have tried two more times but they die almost right away. I guess I'm gonna stick to the cats now hehehe

I'm on Skype right now. I'm "dlcs18" (Duh!)

Remember I don't have a microphone so I can only use the typing chat messenger.
