New Level - Show me the way to go home.

Post by malcdelsol » Tue Feb 24, 2004 4:02 pm

Hi Wonderlanders,

OK, another level by me.

My wife, Jan says this is a ' very frustrating' level to play and called it 'Mission Impossible'

I know you Wonderlanders will prove her wrong

I will await your comments accordingly, and yes my shoulders are still broad

:? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

OUCH! That hurt!

Jan is right, it seems like mission impossible.

I will really have to take some time with this one.
Is this what happens to you when the family come over for a visit?????????

Let you know how I get on ( maybe in about ten years time! ) with it.

cheers

Hi Maureen,

I am truly sorry if this level is annoying to you or anyone else for that matter.

My family flew home this morning and as I was missing them already I decided to create a new level to pass the time.

I wasn't in the most gracious of minds :( Never meant to take it out on my fellow Wonderlanders.

Still, made me feel better

I understand malcdelsol, my mum used to visit me every summer.

When it was time for her to go back home I wailed like a banshee!

Incidentally, the level is not annoying just puzzling.
Sure, isn't that what it's all about? Goodness, I'm beginning to sound Irish now beejeez!

I'm still working on " Time is of the Essence" maybe I should flip between the two of them or just FLIP!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers.

This is a tough one, but not annoying, just puzzling. Ha, ha, poor Stinky!

Wow, this is a very tricky puzzle to solve! Took me forever! But I did it. :D

I think everyone could use some hints. I'd prefer to give screenshots but I'm too busy to deal with that, so just a few words for now:

*** SPOILER: HINTS AHEAD... DON'T READ IF YOU WANT TO SOLVE IT YOURSELF ***

1) Destroy the topmost wood box.

2) There's something slightly "special" (or actually, "normal" depending on your point of view) about 2 of the steel boxes: the one directly to the right of the topmost wood box mentioned in #1, and the one around the upper-right corner that has a reflector directly south of it. Play around (or look very carefully) and see why.

3) Notice all those steel boxes that are resting right on top of lava? You can't push them out yourself, but you can nudge them out by having a slipping object bump into the box. For example, try pushing that reflector that's closest to Stinky's starting position, push the reflector all the way to the right so it goes into the conveyor belt. See what happens.

Good luck!

*** END SPOILERS ***

Hi LinkyNstoof,

Congratulations on solving my latest level so quickly. I just think it would have been nice to allow other Wonderland players to have the same opportunuty.

My levels tend to be a 'logic' problem to work out - not just for you but all Wonderlanders.

After all, this level had only been uploaded some 12 hours before your post.

The risk of reading your hints (which are more like the complete answer) could spoil the enjoyment for other people.

You did exactly the same on my last level ' Arise, Sir Stinky'.

Whenever I spend the time to create a level and put it onto this forum I will always monitor others players' comments and post a reply or hints as requested.

Could you please be a little more restrained with your posts for my levels in the future. You have nothing to prove !!

Well said.
Maybe Linky could edit his post so others who have not read it will still be able to play it "blind"
Just a thought... :)

Yes - edit his comments (solution) & put in the format Midnight Synergy just suggested in a separate post this morning.

Hi, I'm sorry about lack of spoiler warnings.

I didn't think the hint was that big of a giveaway, since it has no details on how to do the various steps, just what (some of) the steps are. From my playing experience, in a level like this, it is so easy to get yourself trying something for hours that only leads to a dead end. For example, for a while on this level, I got Stinky to destroy the wrong box and ultimately got nowhere. That's why I posted the hints, to help others not get too frustrated by getting stuck doing something that ultimately doesn't work. I certainly don't intend to come off as bragging about my success.

I completely disagree with malcdelsol on both counts that my hints are too much of a giveaway. For "Sir Stinky", I only mentioned about the box trick without saying how it is to be used, and I didn't even talk about any other parts of the level. For "Show me", the first 2 hints might be more substantial than necessary (I disagree), but again the 3rd hint is about another one of those unusual tricks that I felt many people might not know about. This partly comes from the reactions you guys have with my Diversionary Tactics level--it also uses some "unusual tricks" which it seemed like very few people figured out on their own.

I'll definitely take care to put big red spoiler warnings in any future hint posts. Also if the majority of the forum users don't believe I should ever give out hints on other ppl's levels I'm happy to comply with that too.

Gee, I just realized I've just became a rainbow wonderlander with my 100th post, the one right above this one. Rather unfortunate that I got myself to this status by essentially annoying other users here. :!:

I believe the person who created the level should be the one to give the hints. We are all sharing people and asking for a hint is a simple enough process. I have learned, thru designing a few levels, that sometimes there is more than one way to solve a puzzle, not always seen by the designer. I would prefer to know what the designer had in mind. Well, that's my $.02 worth . . .

I still haven't got it!

C'mon you lot, it's only a game. I'm sure he meant it with the best of intentions.

Hi Wonderlanders,

Well, this level has provoked a bit of a discussion

Anyway thankyou LinkynStoof for editing your earlier post to conform with the suggestion put forward by Midnight Synergy that a clear warning is given before a hint/spoiler is forthcoming.

As for the disagreements of both mine and your earlier posts - I'm sure we can both now 'put this to bed'.

Me thinks it's time to get on with the serious side of creating and playing Wonderland levels.

At long last, I got it! Gosh malcdelsol, that was difficult.

Must be honest, my husband gave me a clue (think he was fed up listening to me!) on destroying the box.
Talk about "can't see the grass for the trees".

Brilliant again M.

Hi Maureen,

Pleased to hear that you have now solved this level.

You obviously have a high level of 'Perserverance' to have played
it for some time. Hopefully it was still enjoyable and all the more
satisfying when you finally 'cracked it'.

Yes Malcdelsol,

I don't like anything to beat me, and the feeling of triumph when the puzzle is solved, BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

I look forward to your next level (I THINK!) what a mind! 8)

Cheers

Maureen.

See? This is proof that my hints were far from being "more of a giveaway". While I agree that it's probably better for the level designer to give hints himself/herself, I stand by the opinion that my hints were of the appropriate level of details. You still for example have to figure out the sequencing of moving which reflectors first, and there are definitely a few subtleties that I didn't mention.

If anyone really suddenly were able to solve the level within a few minutes just after reading my hints, he/she probably doesn't need hints in the first place.
